Have you sought any professional help for how you feel?
I get why you feel like that but it doesn't make you a failure, you are just having some trouble building up a new social network and that is something lots of people struggle with. I think in your mind your view of yourself is so low that you don't think anyone would want to be friends with you.

    - Nailed it! This is exactly how I feel... every second of the day.

I went to see a counsellor years ago (my ex cheated/was cheating and I couldn't deal)... but I haven't seen anyone since. I don't have health insurance because it's deathly expensive so I can't afford the basic fee for a therapist.

Ok well I feel your situation changes I think it would be worth while for you but I appreciate that right now it's not an option.
The woman you say you are friends with, have you ever thought about asking her why she likes being friends with you? She obviously sees positives in you that at the moment you are not able to see.
I am sure you have many positives to your character, maybe you could try and write a list of good things about yourself.
