Can anyone advise on a good distro of Linux to use for a Linux newbie?? I'm been using WIndows forever, and just recently started using my Mac again and learning MacOS (Mohave) but am wanting to expand my comfort zone by using/learning Linux. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Elementary OS is a good one as it is in my opinion smartly designed, looks great excellent desktop environment and there are not many preinstalled apps.
The Linux desktop is a mess right now. Pretty much everything modern is based to some extent on the hopeless Gnome 3 desktop, which is so poorly designed that it should be rewritten from scratch. Then you get either ancient desktops such as MATE or XFCE which look and feel like a trip back to the early 2000s or even the 90s, and KDE, which isn't that bad but has always lacked polish and has next to zero meaningful applications designed for it. (Gnome-based apps will run but they will look out of place) Right now, macOS is the only really usable UNIX-like desktop OS.
