    Hey all,

Tommorow I'm going to be seeing a gender specialist for the first time!! Yay! I was wondering what to expect and what kind of questions I might be asked and stuff.

I know nothing about gender therapists yet but I'm still new to telling my actual therapist about my gender. So... sorry no good advice here beyond be honest and open.

for me, we started off just talking about what therapy is for and was like (since it was my first time in therapy). they'll probably ask you what you want to get out of therapy, and ask why you came. from then it's just talking about you and how you feel, if you feel depressed, if you're suicidal or self harm, how you cope, if you are happy, etc. it really depends on you. at my first appointment we talked about gender itself (what it is and what being transgender is), my family and family situation, my schooling and friends, what i do in my free time, etc. we talked a little about future coming outs, and how i thought people in my life would respond. they'll never push you too far, and are really good at switching from heavy topics to something a little more easier to talk about.

you might feel like absolute shit when you leave there, or you might feel a bit better. the next day, you might feel like you never want to go back, and that's fine. don't go back if it isn't beneficial to you. find someone else if you still want therapy. the first appointment is really just to get a feel for each other, and if you can work together.

don't be too nervous about it!! they're not judging you, they deal with much crazier people on a daily basis  i know i was literally shaking at my first appointment, i was so anxious. but now after a few sessions i can drive myself over there and feel only a little anxious
