God dammit I need help

For the most part, that's an excuse people use. Basically, alcohol and drugs do "loosen us up" somewhat, but most people don't completely lose impulse control; they know what they're doing, but there's sort of an accepted social contract that they're allowed to do things when drunk that they'd never do sober, and that, plus loosened inhibitions, equals irresponsible behavior.

I think that may have been because the way he originally presented it, he wasn't taking responsibility... it was the "Oh, i was drunk so it wasn't my fault" excuse. If someone told that to me, I'd probably shut them down right there as well... but that's me. Your mileage may vary
