I honestly don't think they're really straight. Tara Banks had an episode on this. All parts are on YouTube. I think one of the guests was a porn actor. I think that guy was bi and in denial.
I agree with PlantSoul. I could see a straight guy doing it once or twice out of desperation if they were in a bad financial situation, but when they make it their career- no, they're not straight when they're willing to have gay sex all the time. The male actors don't even get paid well either, so they could get another job instead if it were really just for money.
Are you referring to porn performers? If so, based on conversations with people in the industry, about half of the people on gay-for-pay sites are actually straight. Probably another quarter are people who come to the work identifying as straight, and it becomes a "safe" way for them to explore, and ultimately, to accept themselves as gay. It is definitely controversial. It also sort of challenges the boundaries of what constitutes "straight" or "gay" or "bi". Properly done, a straight guy will enjoy the physical experience of bottoming as much as a gay guy will, and can orgasm and ejaculate as a result of the physical stimulation... but won't feel the sense of connection and emotional bond that a gay guy would. At least one of the larger "gay for pay" sites employs a therapist that is made available to their models who identify as straight to discuss the confusion that sometimes comes up after performing with other men. There's also some interesting discussion among mental health professionals about straight men that occasionally enjoy gay sex. I haven't really delved into that discussion or research much yet, and I have to say that it's a little questionable to me, but I do think the boundaries of what is "straight" and what is "gay" might be impacted when (at least some) straight men have gay sexual experiences.
Yeah I'm mainly talking about porn actors. I read an article awhile back and it wasn't very nice towards gay for pay actors. Seems like there are a lot though.
If we stop putting people into categories and think about how interpersonal connections really work we will see something clearer. Then I will introduce biology. First I propose that everyone ranks somewhere on your scale of attractiveness, regardless of their sex or identified gender, no matter how you identify yourself. You can simply compare this view to hair color. It's not do you dislike all people with brown hair and are attracted to all blond guys. You are attracted to some blond guys more and some less. Same with people with brown hair. Biological sex is the same. Some people just find the features of one sex more attractive but they do not ever do so at the completely exclusion of the other sex. Second, I propose that it was evolutionarily advantageous for this to develop. Not only can homosexual relationships serve perfectly fine is assisting community needs but it is likely that early humans used sexual interactions as a large part of their social interaction. Such as female spotted hyenas who have lesbian sex to determine their role in their pack. AND higher Progesterone has been found by multiple studies now to be indicative of willingness to have sex with the same sex - which would make sense if it helps to regulate social interactions that could include sexual interaction. This would see to indicate that everyone has some level or attraction, even if you have to add negative levels onto the scale, for other people. I would also say that a variety of other hormones could be specifically high in bisexual people or people willing to have hookups other than just those that produce sexual motivation because they would be more probable to participate in social connection through sexual activity because of those features - and any form of intimate social interaction is a way of changing your social status which increases your survival chance. And, groups that are very intimately connected via such interactions would be less likely to break apart or abandon each other, also it would serve as an extreme trust building tool for early humans.
What Chip said is true. There are certain porn companies out there that mostly have "straight" performers but in my opinion after years and years of working in the industry and thousands of pron shoots and bottoming and even toping you can't call yourself straight anymore. I believe that if a guy tries it once out of curiosity but after that he never does it again he can call himself straight, but if you as a straight man do it regularly even if you get paid for doing it after so many years...you just can't call yourself straight you are simply bisexual. No amount of therapy can "cure" the fact that they enjoy themselves out there. It doesn't really matter if they don't develop feelings for another man just the fact that they keep doing it for so many years contradicts the fact that they are "straight". Most of them have degrees and could actually do anything else beside taking it or giving it up the a**. They may have girlfriends or wifes that approve but trust me from a psychological point of you when you are part of a group even if it's against your beliefs after a point you start to share the same ideas.
Just to be clear... I never said (nor do I believe) that sexual behavior necessarily equals sexual orientation. Heterosexual men have sex with other men in prison, and then go back to heterosexual behavior when they get out. The viewpoint is shifting on this and many if not most sex therapists now recognize that there are some men who are absolutely straight in terms of who they are attracted to and who they most enjoy having sex with, but they also, upon occasion, enjoy the physical stimulation of anal sex. I would absolutely not agree that the act of simply having anal sex alone would determine someone's sexual orientation. Now... if the person finds himself fantasizing about anal sex, or about guys, if his eyes wander toward men when he's out and about, then certainly that is more consistent with being bisexual or gay. But many of the men who are "gay for pay" in porn aren't doing any of that... it's just a job for them.
I used to be one of those guys who thought he was straight even though I enjoyed receiving anal sex. Too many other factors cane into play for me to continue believing that though
I think this is a really good point. People try to categorize based on simple, binary things, and attraction and arousal aren't that simple or binary. Behavior alone, while certainly a factor, isn't the only factor.
I’ll be honest. I initially thought this post was about mainstream actors playing gay roles. To which I would have responded, they are acting, who cares
It does seem strange - almost absurdly so - that a straight man would go into gay porn. I wrote "almost". And it seems equally strange - almost absurdly so - that a gay man would go into straight porn. I wrote "almost". Common sense tells me that any guy that goes into gay porn must have some gay leaning. And vice versa. It surely can't be all about the money when the other type of porn work is available. Even if one pays more than the other. And I wonder about the straight men who have gay sex in prisons. How many go on to have sex with another man / other men once out of prison? How many of those that do will admit to it? It makes me wonder.
I’ll be honest. I’m hoping to never have any prison sex experience. I’ll just have to take someone else’s word for it
I’ll also naively thought that the gay pirn actors were gay or bi. Not sure why. I always knew that the lesbian ones weren’t necessarily lesbian. Stereotypes I guess
What is the source material for these claims about gay porn actors being straight? Does it refer just to the Tops, or to the Bottoms as well? I think you can usually tell anyway. As for the debate over what makes someone define themselves one way or the other, I think a part of it may come down to interpretation of the phrase "Sexual Orientation", between capability of attraction, versus preference of attraction. Sometimes forms state Orientation (the former) and sometimes they state preference (latter). However, obviously the term "preference" implies a degree of choice. Then there's society, class, culture, law etc on top of that. It could well be more prevalent in society than people realise though. I know some friends/friends of friends who identify as straight and won't be questioned on it, but are also open to the fact they have got with guys, had sex or oral with guys. I suspect in that regards, it may have something to do with the one- dimensional attitude within LGBT culture as well as stereotypes towards gay or bi guys regarding masculinity. If those didn't exist, I'm sure the LGBT population would at least double if not more.
(name removed) (mostly bottom) from MEN is straight he has a girlfriend and she knows what he does, (name removed) (mostly top) is also straight (name removed) (played as bottom) is now a straight porn actor with his own company. Most of the (site name removed) men are straight. So yeah Gay porn industry is full of gay's for pay. I think the only companies that have only gay men are (names removed) Moderator note: Please do not mention the names of porn stars or adult sites, as this is not permitted per our CoC. We've removed them.
Isn't this the guy that offered Justin Bieber millions of dollars to have sex with him awhile ago? That doesn't sound very straight...
I know nothing about that...that would be funny actually =))) though I don't get peoples fascination with Bieber....but about Johnny I saw an interview with him once done by MEN and his girlfriend was present.
