I live in the middle of Central Massachusetts. I have some gay friends out in Western Massachusetts, but I don't know anyone locally. As most of my friends are married and straight, I'm really not sure how to find people to just go to LGBT clubs and activities with. I just got out of a short but intense relationship with another woman and am tempted to just remain friends with her, even though I'm not over her yet, because I don't know anyone else locally who I can relate to. How do you recommend meeting people in more rural/suburban areas?

    Hi,

For those of who you don't know western MA can mean super rural and isolated.

As for eastern MA there are not a lot of gay resources either. Cultural? IDK.

It must be tough where you are. Sorry.

Easy to say move, but easier said than done.

    MeetUp comes to mind.

Moving isn't an option because I have a school age child. I've just discovered Meet Up, I'll give it a shot. Thanks!

Isn't Northampton MA considered central Mass? Is that, and the surrounding towns, far from you? If not, there could be social events there. It might require a little bit of driving, but your state is fairly compact. Since it sounds like you have the desire to put yourself out there and make friends, I think that could be accomplished. Finding a significant other is always a little more work than just making friends, but we all know this. Good luck.

Northampton is technically Western MA, a little over an hour away from me. I do go out there frequently, but would like to meet people a little closer to home so that I have people to grab dinner with on weeknights and the like, without it being an ordeal. I'm not looking for a significant other right now, as I just got out of a relationship and will need some time to process that and fall out of love with her before I even think about anyone else.

OMG, try the Panhandle of Oklahoma. LOL.

Thankfully I don't live there any more.
