What are your favorite songs about, well, gayness? Whether it's coming out, having a crush or just generally being awesome and confident with yourselves, any and all suggestions are welcome. They don't have to explicitly be about being gay - just anything that you feel represents your 'queerness' (btw I'm using gay for a lack of a better term but any LGBTQA+ experiences are welcome too). Here are my personal favorites: Sexcrime by Eurythmics It's A Sin by Pet Shop Boys Swings Both Ways by Robbie Williams and Rufus Wainwright Don't Dream It's Over by Crowded House Fascination by Human League John I'm Only Dancing by David Bowie I'm A Man by Pulp Freedom 90 by George Michael I could go on and on and onandonandon but I want to here your suggestions too! Can't wait.
I kind of like these. I don't want to point out the obvious ones like Take Me To Church, so I'll post some less popular ones. This song in particular helped me get through depression back when I was bullied everyday for being gay. It makes me cry just watching it. This music video was edited by someone so it's not official. The cartoon parts are official, the real life ones are not official. The music is still very cute. I cried when I watched the original shorter version
Some of the songs which found their way onto my "I'm so gaaaay" playlist... Apologies for my eclectic taste in music  "A Little Respect" by Erasure "Awake and Alive" by Skillet "Coming Clean" by Green Day "Go West" by the Village People "I Kissed A Boy"; I like the Cobra Starship version. "Make It Stop/September's Children" by Rise Against "Nature Boy"; I like David Bowie's version. "Walk Like A Man" by the Four Seasons "Wired Wrong" by Steam Powered Giraffe "You Spin Me Round"; I like the Dead or Alive version. And finally: the entirety of Folie a Deux by FOB, especially "27", for being the album I had on repeat every night while figuring myself out and "Reflection" from Disney's Mulan, for being the song that partially, if not fully, triggered my coming out to myself ♥❤
While it's not technically a "gay song," I really like: The Predatory Wasp of the Pallisades is Out to Get Us by Sufjan Stevens It deals with (more or less) a boy who falls in love with his male friend, and has a hauntingly beautiful melody.
A moment like this - Kelly Clarkson, Leona Lewis Bleeding love - Leona Lewis Born this way - Lady Gaga Your song - Elton John Can you feel the love tonight - Elton John Something good - Rodger & Hammerstein I kissed a girl - Katy Perry [I don't actually like this one, but it's a good message, and maybe the fact all the girls used to sing it in our Christian school and never got told off] Don't dream it's over - crowded house is about LGBT+ ? Would have never guessed ... I thought it was about the decaying world and how ignorant everyone is ... which can be said of anything, really.
Love this song at the moment! Tried to embed the youtube file... must be very blonde!!! Couldn't get it to work
"Adia" by Sarah McLachlan - she's said it's been about a number of different things, none of which had anything to do with being gay, but the song is tied to a memory of a specific relationship for me that it fits. "Constant Craving" by K.D. Lang - again not a song specifically about being gay, but one that just kinda fits for me "Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover" by Sophie B Hawkins - because it actually managed to get played on mainstream radio in spite of the lady lovin "Bring me some Water" by Melissa Etheridge - because it's Melissa "If it isn't Her" by Ani DeFranco - Her voice kinda annoys me, but I love the John Wayne lesbian swag shout out at the beginning "Sisters are doin it for Themselves" by Eurythmics - again not a song about being gay, but it works...plus it's Annie Lennox and Aretha "Whataya Want from Me" by Adam Lambert - not specifically a gay song as far as I know, but makes me think of the process of trying to figure things out I'm sure there are others I can't think of right now.
Same Love, but remade from an actual LGBT point of view and not some what-if-bullshit. God I love Angel Haze.
My favourite songs that would fall within the 'categories' would be: Lara Fabian - La Difference Valerie Pinkston - Trick of Fate Sarah McLachlan - Answer Sarah McLachlan - Sweet Surrender
Judas Priest - Raw Deal There are a bunch of other songs that dealt with being gay in a roundabout way, but that song is explicitly a "gay" song.
Girls like Girls - Hayley Kiyoko WILD - Troye Sivan (it's more the music video) Kind of less serious but I like them: How To Tell if a Girl is a Lesbian - Ally Hills In Love With a Straight Girl - Ally Hills
The Ally Hills songs are cute and she has a good voice. The "if she looks like she'd want a few cats" line always cracks me up.
You're probably right. A lot of the songs I mentioned aren't about being LGBT+ specifically - this song just makes me think of the girl I love and the stuff people have to go through to be accepted, so the theme kinda fits.
Melissa Ferrick, "Scenic View" Almost all of her songs on her new album are so positive and uplifting, I really love them! https://youtu.be/4TeEVgghpho
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Orffm0v0mS0 Batrice Eli - "Girls" How do you embed Youtube videos anyway? I...don't know what to say ! By the way, isn't there already another thread about this?
