I guess I feel a little envious of the younger generation of gay people because of their ability to come to terms with their sexuality earlier. Part of this is that attitudes are changing. From my reading less and less young men seem to be identifying as straight. What an incredible sense of freedom this must provide these males. How wonderful it must be to be 14,know that your gay, be able to openly acknowledge it and not have to spend the next 20 years pretending just to fit in. The next generation of gay young men hopefully will not have a mountain of repressed hetero-normative propaganda to overcome. They will have no shame, no homophobia and no stigma in living as men who love other men.

I think we (including myself) may be a bit idealistic here. In general the issues around being LBGTQ are far better than they were a generation ago, and our rights are recognized in a way that was hard to imagine 30 years ago. But still, being a gay teen today is still difficult.

A great big huge thing now (that's really available to all of us) is positive role models -- out LBGTQ people and characters that be can proudly followed.

Sven, didn’t meant to imply the path for gay teens today wasn’t dufficult but just easier than in the past to be honest about their sexuality.

For a time I did, it actually bothered me very much. Then I remembered how simple life once was. I think, if I could go back I would just want to learn how to stick up for myself better.

My jealousy is mostly at straight people and how they can do whatever PDA they want in public. And no matter how comfortable you are with your orientation, there will always be times where you can't be honest about things.

But I'm all happy and no jealousy for all the other LGBT who had easy coming outs and/or were able to skip the self-loathing stage

    HI Contented-
I didn't mean to imply that you meant to imply anything  It's all good, and I think we agree that things are moving in the right direction. There are good examples out there of the way things should be, just as you described so well.
