It depends. Mostly digital but sometimes I'll get the CD if it's a band I really like. Recently I bought a cassette tape! It's the first time my friends album has been in print

Well, it's pretty hard to lose a digital album.
These days, I've been leaning towards "digital copy" for a lot of things...

Agreed, but they're not really available for the most part.

I think I'm sticking with physical CDs (unless they can't be found!)
    Physical shall never die! :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Ripping physical CDs. I have a 2tb external hard-drive dedicated to music. I don't think I've even filled half of it. I love my collection of CDs, and I don't want to damage them.

I also prefer physical books to digital copies. I don't know what is wrong with me! I wonder if that shall change with time.

I agree. I haven't bought a CD in ages but still buy albums on vinyl. 99% of what I like, even new releases, is being sold on vinyl so it's usually no problem to get them. Especially not if you befriend your local record store owner so he will order whatever you ask

EDIT: Of course I don't buy everything. My iTunes has nearly 9000 songs and most of them are free downloads (but downloading copyrighted stuff was pretty much legal here until two weeks ago and even today there's no penalty to downloading)

I like my hard copy. That said, most of my very recent purchases have been downloads. (Darn isolated jewels surrounded by fluff, lol.) Although I never download any proprietarily-encoded music, only generic .mp3, .wav, .flac, etc.. I simply do not trust cloud storage. Heard about a guy whose account at Amazon was banned and he lost over $200 worth of music they refused to release or refund. That was enough for me to stick to physical copies or personally-stored music.

I don't buy my music, it's legal in my country to take any media you want for free. It's illegal to profit off it though. Which has sort of made Canada a hub for piraters and in return is putting pressure on Parliament to change our peer 2 peer sharing laws.

If I like an artist enough I will buy their c.d, but for the most part, the artists I live too aren't available for paid download, and generally let their music out for free.

I have so many cds, they are just the best. And vinyl also, there's just something about physical copies I love.

I'm collecting CD's. I'm a bit nostalgic in that case.
I also love books and not these weird kindle computers.

For some reason, I prefer physical CDs, because there's the pain of accidentally deleting the song, and in some cases, needing to pay for it again (even though most services today such as iTunes don't make you do this).

I've read that Pandora and Spotify aren't available in Canada, which exacerbates the piracy problem, although Rdio changes that.

Sometimes, piracy helps you to discover completely obscure music (probably because these musicians sold out thanks to piracy, or their genre of music isn't "cool" anymore, or you can't buy it in your region).

I haven't bought a CD since I got my iPod shuffle back in 2004 or so.

Now I just use subscribe to the Google Music service. Though if Apple comes out with their rumored lossless audio service, I'll be switching.

I usually download, unless I go to a concert and they're selling CDs that i haven't already downloaded. Some of the music I listen to is out of print, so it's not like there's any way I can find a CD or get in trouble for downloading it. It's also very hard to find CDs for some of my favorite artists.

I love collecting CD's! Especially if it's one of my favorite artists! I mean it feels so much better to have a CD, I currently have over 120 but I use iTunes to buy albums often too so I go both ways

If I really like a band, I might preorder their CD if it comes autographed and/or with a bundle where I get a shirt at a decent price. Then, I just burn the CD and add it to iTunes and keep the signed copy as a souvenir.

Mostly though, I prefer digital download because I tend to only like a couple of songs out of every CD; therefore, it makes more sense to simply buy individual songs.

Oh, books. I have a guilty addiction to books :frowning2: The environmentalist in me knows that digital books are better but I cannot get into them at all. I always buy secondhand books though so it's not as bad as it could be. Still makes me feel like a hypocrite.
