Dark Funeral's cover of Bathory's Call From the Grave is slightly better.

Darren Hayes cover of Delta Goodrem's Lost Without You. And the duet they did was better than the original too

Agree with both of these, although I like the original Syd Barrett version as well

Heart It Races - Dr Dog (originally by Architecture in Helsinki)
Just Like Heaven - Dinosaur Jr. (The Cure)
Ziggy Stardust - Bauhaus (David Bowie)

While I can't say any of these are necessarily *better* than the original, I think they're all really great renditions.

They Might Be Giant's cover of Instanbul (Not Constantinople) and their cover of 25 O'Clock by XTC, which I stumbled upon one day.

I like that one. Also Rufus Wainwright. Leonard Cohen's voice scares me

    Pretty good.

I think I'm going to mention the popular one which is Whitney Houston's I Will Always Love You as well as Aretha Franklin's Respect.

Hands down Nina Simone's version of Feeling Good will always be better than the original.

arrrggh. You beat me to it with the Bauhaus cover of Ziggy. I saw them do it live and my friends and I were in a state of shock at how amazing it was.

While I'm a massive Dylan fan, I must say that The White Stripes cover of One More Cup of Coffee has a quirkiness that I really like so it's my go to version when I feel like hearing that song.
