I'm pretty much in the middle; I'm certainly more socially liberal than conservative, but I'm against abortion and pro-stricter immigration laws and such.

Really I can't stand either side.

The liberals with their SJW extreme feminism, political correctness, race-baiting...the conservatives with their religious bigotry, anti-gay legislation, and war-mongering. Both sides believe the other side will DESTROY THE WORLD so it's up to them to destroy the other side. There's no compromise, no logical thought, it's just rabid partisanship, and blind hatred of the other side. That's why I can't really work with either side. Even the less angry members seem to still believe the other side is pure evil. And I can't think that way.

If you think that either side is significantly different from the other in terms of how stubborn and closed-minded they can be, think again. Two sides of the same coin, people. The more of a middle-of-the-road person you are, the more you can see this. People on the extremes of both ends don't see it and probably never will.

I'd say I'm more socially liberal. I am, however, more economically moderate. I do agree on you on some things. People are too quick to label others as racist or homophobic. It's gotten to the point where I've seen supporters of LGBT rights being attacked because they said one thing that, out of context, could be taken the wrong way.

However, there definitely are still things that need to be done for racial, LGBT, and a few other types of equality. I consider myself liberal only because there's still things that need to be changed. I just sometimes feel like people are going about it the wrong way. :/

This is very true. Japan is a very conservative country, but many of their beliefs/laws would correspond with liberalism in the United States.

Most of my views are more liberal. But I don't usually consider myself liberal overall because I have a few views that are quite conservative; some people wouldn't believe I'm really liberal. So I consider myself to be neither.

Like Bernie Sanders, I mostly identify as a Democratic Socialist, so you can pretty much say I'm definitely more left wing than the average person. Liberalism definitely appeals to me much more than conservatism does, especially since American conservatism to me does very little for many of the identities that I identify with (being a gay male, atheist, pacifist, feminist ally, ally of the transgender community, coming from a lower middle class background in an area dense with poverty, etc.). People can say both parties are two sides to the same coin, but I haven't seen it. I've seen one side of that coin do terrible things to the community I was growing up in. Barack Obama is the only somewhat liberal president I have seen in my lifetime, and he has introduced a conservative health care policy that gives many people in my community that couldn't afford it before. But since he's a "socialist", people here didn't vote for him. If Barack Obama is a socialist, I'd love to see what that makes me.

    I'm very left-wing. Communist, probably.

I wouldn't vote for the CPC, but when I'm of voting age I'll vote NDP.

I know there's more than just Dem & Repub in the US. We really do need more viable third & even fourth or more party candidates. I'd push for Libertarian & Green. As for me, I'm a mod lib. I'm not going to break it down as to what I feel about which issue. It would take awhile. I just would appreciate a balance, which, I realize, is not always going to be easy to achieve.

Yay, someone who agrees! Also, I do agree that extreme conservatives are just as bad and sometimes makes me ashamed of being a conservative when they start spouting idiotic nonsense. Thanks to that, a lot of people don't take it too seriously and don't really know what conservatism is about.

Far too left to be called liberal. I'm an anarcho-communist in the vein of Makhno.

Uh, yes. However, I consider the name of the band to be synonymous with the hottie on the flute, Ian Anderson. Like it or not, he had a tremendous influence on the band. I acknowledge that there were other mighty contributors, including one notable transwoman, but it is excusable to consider "Jethro Tull" and "Ian Anderson" to be virtually synonymous, given that I think he is damn fucking sexy.

Have you seen that footage of them from that Rolling Stone's film, 'Rock and Roll Circus'? Very amazing! The whole film is, really. From 1968/69, I think.

    ~

As for political views, very much to the left, very liberal.

I think we need to have healthcare for everyone as a basic right, as well as dental, do more to protect the environment and preserve the wilderness and the earth's eco-systems, make sure people earn a living wage, invest more in mass transit, clean energy and education, and spend less on all these crazy, costly wars.

I very much detest the current Republican agenda, and even numerous Democrats are much more conservative than I'd like.

I spent a lot of time on a site where people posted conservative political opinions and I got used to a lot more the more extreme conservatives; they can really put you off of conservatism, just like spending time on Tumblr will put you off of liberals. I could stand the frequent anti-socialist, anti-Obama, pro-Israel posts...those are typical conservative beliefs and I didn't take much issue with them and agreed with them on some. But then every day I'd see so many posts about how homosexuals are "perverted" and corrupting our children, how Muslims are "bloodthirsty and evil", how we should put mandatory prayer back in public schools...and I just couldn't get on board with them, even if I agreed with them on immigration, the economy, and health care.

It's like people feel the need to take it to the extremes. And if I told any of them I was a gay Christian they were like "I hope you repent because there's no such thing as a gay Christian!" You can't win with some people.

  14. I'm libertarian on most things, but I also have some left-leaning beliefs like single-payer healthcare (cheaper than Medicare and Medicaid), progressive income taxation (can't lower taxes with our debt), and welfare (keep it, but give the bare minimum).

People often associate libertarianism with anarchy, but that's COMPLETELY WRONG!

Yes, a few are anarchists, but most of us still want some form of government, a smaller one of course. That doesn't mean we want no government, that'll be crazy... A prime function of the government is to protect its people, which is holding a national military. We want a government that will punish those who infringe on the rights of others, that's also an example of its function. After that, it's up to one's interpretation on what other functions the government should have.

Also, like many political affiliations, I don't have to 100% agree with the Libertarian platform. So don't judge me, LOL

I agree 100 percent on what you wrote. A lot of times I agree with conservative posts but when it comes to articles involving crimes and a black person happens to be the suspect, all hell breaks loose. I mean, there may be some I agree with but the rest of them are downright racist. There's people calling them n****r and saying how better off the world would be without them and those are the kinds of posts which makes me think that we really do have a long way to go on racial issues.

In the context of US politics, I hate liberals, but I hate conservatives slightly more.

Compared to most on this board, I'm conservative. Compared to the general public, I am moderate. Compared to most of the people I grew up around, I am liberal. LOL.

My views are pro-life, but I find this issue moot for this most part because neither party cares about it. I am pro gay rights, including non-discrimination laws and marriage equality, making hate crimes a stiffer punishment etc. I agree with basic gun rights but would close the gun show loophole and am fine with a basic background check. Deny gun ownership to any person with a violent past. I believe global warming is not man-made and natural. I view Monsanto as a threat to our food supply with them adding chemicals etc. and strongly uphold the rights of the small farmers. Every citizen should know what goes into their food. Our 4th amendment rights die every day due to forced search and seizures based on government speculation and paranoia. I would disband the NSA and go back to traditional surveillance. The Patriot Act can go screw itself. Although the intentions of the government was good with the ACA, I think the way they have managed their call center, website, and administration sucked. I believe that no one should be denied healthcare and feel that the nation would be best suited for competition to be opened up across state lines. Organizations like BlueCross that are "non-profit" need to be exposed and all government cronyism propping up big insurance companies must cease. Provide healthcare to illegals on an emergency basis only. Make all big businesses pay the same tax rate as the public. At the same time, corporations are not people and money is not speech. Curb defense spending. This goes along with corporate welfare. We pay for planes that never see the air and for military bases from WWII. It's time to be more practical. Scale down troop involvement in the Middle East and spend more money to improve the VA. If it cannot be improved, give every person in the military suffering from PTSD etc a quick path to disability as well as other stipends. Use drones for foreign surveillance only and not for shooting.

I support increasing taxes on the wealthy and providing incentives for them to start SMALL businesses. Maybe a tax credit. However, most of the wealthy will NOT engage in this type of behavior. Expose any offshore foreign accounts and vigorously prosecute these people. Limit all campaign contributions to $100k per person and end all PAC's. Reform the federal reserve.

Stop with foreign aid unless in the case of a natural disaster. Use the decrease in spending to keep welfare levels the same.

At this time, I am only entertaining voting for Bernie Sanders or maybe Rand Paul if he apologizes for his homophobic statements. I refuse to vote for anyone associated with big business corporatism.

Without going into a long commentary on specific issues, I lean towards social democracy + pro-European policies.

As has already been stated, European conservatives are quite different to American conservatives. Many European conservatives are fiscally tight but socially liberal. I don't consider the UK Independence Party as conservative.
