So, this summer I'm going to a camp outside of my country, would it be a good idea to come out? Right now I'm out only to a few friends. I just feel like for this time I wanna be myself, express myself in any way I want and not give a single care about what other people think.
Hello Imagination! Welcome to EC! If/when you Come Out is always up to you. In this case, perhaps you should just consider as many possible pros and cons as you can think of and then make a decision as to whether or not the positives outweigh the negatives. For example, will there be anyone else from your country or town going to the same camp who might involuntarily Out you when you return home? Could word get back to your family from the camp leadership if you decide to be open about your sexuality at camp? Is any of that even a concern for you? Also, how do you think you're likely to be accepted by the other camp attendees - I imagine you don't want to spend camp possible being bullied by a homophobic a**hole. On the plus side, if you can just be you for a while that could be a really good thing. Just some thoughts.
Well, I'm pretty sure there's no one from my town going, and for the most part I'm pretty sure the camp leadership wouldn't mind and if anything it could just be between my friends or whatever. I also doubt word would reach my parents and I expect for the most part that People are understanding, or at least I hope. Anyways, thanks, I'll probably just see how it goes.
