    Against.
Least of all because there is no rational argument in favor.
But especially because I do not feel I have the right to decide whether another person dies, if there's another option.

*And please don't start with the abortion/self-defence analogies or fallacious appeals to deterrence.

Anti capital punishment has nothing inherently to do with liberalism.
Liberalism is about government and it's power/influence, not punishment or morality.

Have you forfitted your right to live when you kill 1 person?
    Think before you answer.

I don't have ennemies. I have friends. The rest of the human population I may have all kinds of relationships with.
People like Breivik have done horrible things, however that still doesn't change the hypocricy of killing someone for the crime of killing.
    It's pure vengance, not justice.

Sure but then you haven't established that it will. You've merely asserted so in an attempt to make a point. Which is classic fear-mongering.

    Does that include Africa?

First of all what's with the random capital letters?
Secondly is this a copy-paste from the Red Book?
There is an ideological conflict between Capitalism and Communism/Socialism in the world, but it's not as simple as West vs East.
Like I pointed out Africa also belongs to the third world. More-over there are socialist countries in the West, especially South America, but several European countries also have strong socialist parties and socialist citizens.

America is a continent. The U.S.A. is a country, neither are capable of doing anything, it's people that do things and the people you are referring to are small elites.
If you're trying to make a point it would help if you tried to be less simplistic and hysteric in your rethoric.

What? Ever heard of the Cultural Revolution, amongst other things?

No disrespect but you're being a terrible advocate for communism/socialism here. You might support all the ideals in the above bit, but the history of communist countries is nothing like what you're describing here.

Either way this is all pretty irrelevant to this discussion.

The results for this are absolutely mindblowing. A 40% of people are 'for in certain cases' on what is meant to be a fairly socially liberal forum. Are we taking the piss?

(for the record I'm actually more centrist than most when it comes to the authoritarian/liberal spectrum. but not for this)

Other: I am generally against it.

If the person has a shred of a conscience, they will have the remainder of their life behind bars to think about what they did. Not only that, movies about prison life are haunting. In fact, some of the most heinous criminals perish at the hands of other inmates.

If the person does not have a conscience, then nothing they did will register. It would sort of be a toss as to whether they ought to get the death penalty or not. However, you, or the judge and jury, do not fully know a criminal's mental processes.

I think Cary Stayner of CA is on death row, though none of them are apparently being executed. His past is dark and, as he got older, his crimes were heinous. If he were executed, I don't think I'd lose any sleep over it.

Off topic, he looks creepy in many pictures, but you'd never believe this guy is a whack job from his mug shot, and others have said the same thing, so I'm not the first to make this observation:

He was apprehended by the FBI while having breakfast at a nudist colony. Go figure.

In the UK there is no death penalty, but life in prison being treated like shit is a way better sentence than death (you basically don't suffer at all).

Sentenced to LIFE in an isolated environment. (im speaking about extreme cases where they cannot be rehabilitated example murder)
