I can think of 3 on the top of my head.

Twilight. Too romancey. (I wasn't required to read it, but I tried it and gave up :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:)

Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry. I couldn't get "into" the story at all. (had to read it for school)

Witch & Wizard: The Fire. I think it's too fast-paced and the fact that every chapter is 1-2 pages really bugs me. (also not required to read it... but yeah)

I had to read it as a freshman as well, and found it nearly impossible.

The Scarlet Letter, The Three Musketeers, and The Last of the Mohicans were also books I struggled through. I just detested the first, and the latter two, while somewhat entertaining, were just too descriptive and slow for my liking. For Musketeers and Mohicans I had to watch the movies and read the Sparknotes to really understand what exactly I had just read.

well the initial one that pops to mind is a book I read in high school history.

"The life and times of Sacco and Vanzetti" or possibly "The trial of Sacco and Vanzetti"

I always thought that was an interesting case, and it was the shortest book on the required list, which was important because I was currently assigned to read Lord of the Flies, 1984 and king Lear for english, and i was still trudging my way through roots for this same class.

It was THE driest, most boring book I've ever read.

the other one that pops into my head is Lord of the rings. I'm a super nerd, but I've never made it all the way through it. I've tried 4 times to finish that book (all long before the movies) and I always lose interest after moria....it's just so damned dull!

I've been trying to finish The Passage for months. I purchased the audiobook for a 14 hour long road trip and loved the story... Still, even though I enjoy it, I am having problems getting past the 100 page mark. (All the while reading through other books effortlessly)

The Hobbit - I enjoyed the Lord of the Rings books, but I found this to be a little boring.
Mister B. Gone - I thought it was a horror story, but I couldn't get into the story.
The Shining - It's a really creepy book, but I'm still going to keep reading it.

Usually I don't give up on a book but I did give up on Ulysses by James Joyce after about 50 pages. It's just impossible to read.

I had to read Great Expectations in school also and I didn't have a problem with it. Is that weird?

I just finished reading Mrs. Dalloway by Virginia Woolf, and it was tough. The plot of the whole book takes place over the course of one day, and everything is written in stream of consciousness. It just switches back and forth between the thoughts and feelings and observations of the various characters in the book. They think about the past, the present, the future, the setting constantly changes, and it's hard to tell when one person has finished thinking and Woolf has begun to narrate from another character's point of view.

Little Women, Great Expectations, and Jane Eyre all dragged for me. So did the The Hobbit, as much as I loved the story.

I'm currently having a heck of a time trying to finish my boss's book on the history of armies in and around the byzantine empire. I can't even think of the name. Very interesting though, and huge.

Illuminatus Trilogy was very long! I guess it should be, its 3 books in one. The audio version was wonderful when it came out.

Artemis Fowl. It was a few years ago, maybe 2 or 3, but I just didn't understand the book at all. I guess it doesn't help that I wait to do my summer reading until the night before though. :eusa_doh:
I had a hard time reading The Pearl in school too, but it wasn't hard, it just bored me so much that I always got distracted.

I started reading 'IT' by Stephen King and couldn't finish it. Absolutely hated his style of writing. I love the 'IT' movie though.

    Frankenstein was a complete bore.

I'm sure there are a few others that I can't think of right now.
