Not at all. My university has won accolades for its LGBT friendliness. But I'm about to leave school and find a job, so I'll have my guard up for awhile wherever I end up until I know how safe it is (assuming I can actually get hired).
My school is generally pretty accepting. There are a few LGBT couples at our school, and people don't seem to care too much. Although, they usually do get a few looks by people walking by.
No. I think I've chosen my workplaces wisely. I was working at an auto parts warehouse in the mid 90s, but I decided to come out there, as well. And I didn't get much grief there, either. Lex
I have encountered 1 work situation in the last 10 years that was very bad news. It had to do with the internal culture and top management. It was more surprising because it was in a blue state. I think it was the exception rather than the rule. I think schools have gotten way less LGBT phobic lately, and also more quickly than the workplace.
There are quite a bit of homophobic people at my school, the kids that are out get harassed by the douche bags but that's to be expected. A lot of people tell homophobic jokes but they're not really being serious.
My school is very accepting. Very little homophobic people in the school. An occasional "faggot" but nothing bad.
