10%?

Sadly, we will probably never have an accurate number of LGBT's because of the multitudes still in the closet. Even our own little poll here shows that most of us here on EC are still in the closet.

Another point, has anyone ever just looked at the personal ads on Craigslist? The number of ads for m4m outnumbers all of the other personal ads combined....at least in my area of the country.

 

I'm not sure of the percentage of people who are gay....

but I am sure of the percentage of people who are 100% straight.

I'm not sure I think it's 10%. I think the true proportion of queer people in the population is 7-8%.

Yeah, the consensus here is about right: 3-6% is a more accurate, realistic estimate. There was an article in the local newspaper (released by AP, but I can't give a reference) that said the actual proportion of homosexuals in the population is much less than 10%. When you account for regional mores such as religion, homophobia, and other factors, it really is darn near impossible to get a true estimate.

Besides, 1 out of 10 is nice and hopeful but too optimistic; personally, 1 out of 20 fits with my experiences better.

 

My FB index is: out of 165 friends, I counted 8 confirmed gay and 3 suspected.

 

Went on Facebook and counted. 8 out of 74, or 10.8%.

I personally hold the opinion that it's around 10%ish that are gay, but there are far more bi-to-some-degree people that just never say it.
