    They have a different interpretation of Christianity than you do.
    Just like how different Americans have different interpretations of the constitution.

    Good point, I just have a hard time understanding why they think God would be hateful toward LGBT people when God is supposed to be loving.

    Having read the bible myself, I cannot personally understand how anyone can perceive it as loving.

    A big part of it is perception however. We can look at the same thing from a different angle and see something entirely different than that of the other side. For example... "Forgive me father, for I have sinned!" compared to "Sorry daddy, I've been bad!". Both statements share the same literal context, but will very likely be perceived drastically apart.

    For me, it's about the data. I'm going to take actions with more credit than words... and any being who stands by and lets slavery and rape go unpunished or condoning sexism and genocide and yet simultaneously considering shellfish, pork, or mixed fabrics to be atrocities... is really no friend of mine. The way I see it, any leader worth following knows how to prioritize, and how to be just. I'll stop myself there.

    TLDR; it's like abstract art. Some will see beauty, others will see chaos. The two ends of that spectrum can love the same thing in entirely different ways, and won't always get along.

    I've read the Bible too and yeah it can be weird. To religious homophobes who say homosexuality is against the Bible I always remind them the Bible also says not to eat shellfish but most Christians do. This defense hasn't really worked but I say it anyway.
