General News 9 dead in shooting at South Carolina church

Truly horrible.

Even worse when you think that some of the victims are most likely children . The type of news that almost make me cry...wish I can help somehow but still speechless...

 

Suspect identified as 21-year-old Dylann Roof.

Seen in Facebook photos wearing a jacket with the apartheid-era flags of South Africa and Rhodesia (Zimbabwe). He had been arrested twice before for a drug offense and for trespassing.

Roof sat in on the Bible study meeting for over an hour before open firing.

According to the relative of a survivor, Roof said "I have to do it. You rape our women and you're taking over our country."

Officials are calling it a hate crime.

Devastating! My thoughts and prayers go to the victims and families.

These hate crimes are acts of terrorism and should be punished to the fullest extent of the law.

 

Seems like the alleged perpetrator has been captured.

 

After reading about the suspect, I have no doubt that this was a hate crime. I can't wait to see this guy get the book thrown at him to where he'll never enjoy a breath of air outside a prison cell ever again. I have no sympathy for this racist scumbag.

I feel absolutely awful for all of the victims and their families, including that of Pastor Pinckney, who was an amazing public servant. This only goes to show how commonplace these mass shootings are in and only in the United States.

 

But obviously he's not a terrorist because he's white.

 

And South Carolina will continue to fly that damn traitor's flag.

 

If anyone has a punch able face, it's this kid. I hope they lock him in solitary confinement for the next 80 years

I am aware of the tragic event and am not up on the specifics. It sure does sound like a hate crime. I wonder what the genesis of this accumulated hatred is all about. Very bizarre and, more than that, very sad.

What's also sad is that the frequency of these events is increasing and we may be becoming increasingly desensitized by that. That shouldn't be happening but, at the same time, when you read these sorts of headlines, the first thing that goes through one's mind may very well be, "Oh no, not again."

 

This was very tragic. It's sad to think that you're not really safe anywhere here in the U.S. so long as there's still nutjobs carrying guns around ready to shoot any moving thing they see.

 

Utterly horrifying. This is what racism in America ultimately results in.

There's a part of me that wishes this piece of shit would get the death penalty.

I can't imagine what it must feel like for the families, the kind of anger they must feel.

Ah, South Carolina, the first state to secede from the Union.

Of course you're still flying the flag of the confederacy.

 

This is such a tragedy it really is but of course they will bring banning guns into it which is not the answer either.
