I can read and write French pretty well not 100% fluently, but enough that I can get the jist of most articles, hearing it spoken is completely different.
I'm currently learning German and I have the basic grammar, sentence structures, words and phrases of Spanish and French down. I'll have more of a go at all three during summer xp. Now, I'm also just starting to identify the Korean and Japanese "alphabet" but I can pronounce and understand phrases and individual words.
I'm learning Italian. Mainly, because there's a lot of Italian literature I'd like to be able to read in Italian, and I'd also like to go to Italy, and be able to speak, even if not perfectly. I especially want to go to Sicily, and some of the smaller islands off the coast of Sicily.
I wanted to learn those languages! (Not Chinese, though); I've been learning a couple of conlangs though; kinda gave up on one as it sounded like a "nerd's mating call", and the other one or two I'll get to if I have time or if my Internet and gaming addiction is dealt with. I could take them up as part of my prospective IB course, but I don't want to give up the two human sciences I'm looking to take (psychology, human rights); at the same time, I want to take both languages as opposed to either, or I'll feel a little irky. The college is also far enough from me thank you. I also decided to take Russian as opposed to those languages due to its case system (which I perceive as logjcal and simpler than German) and for an online conlang community in Russia.
Spanish is my mother language, and I've been studying english since I was little. Internet helps (So, EC counts as studyig?) I want to start studying french this year. I also want to learn german in the future.
I took three years of French but I do want to improve and become fluent. I can write the language decently but spoken French is very lost on me... Unless I'm the one saying the sentences. I can understand my mother tongue, Tagalog, but I cannot speak or write it. I've also dabbled into studying Japanese independently.
I studied Latin for four years in high school. It's a dead language, so we didn't study it conversationally and only translated into English. I can speak Vietnamese but not fluently. I also understand it somewhat. I feel more comfortable with English.
I can speak/read/write/understand spoken French pretty well. Not fluently, but rather well and I'm learning more as the years go on. And I'm learning Korean now. I would eventually also like to learn Chinese and/or German.
I'm in German 3, planning to go through AP. Also took Mandarin Chinese 1&2 in 7th and 8th grade, but I've forgotten a LOT. :icon_sad: I'm hoping to take it in college though.
To you guys, I guess French is foreign, but here it isn't. Anyway, I can speak it perfectly fluently, but I have the local accent, which makes it difficult for foreigners to understand.
I took Japanese for three semesters a few years back. I can still read some of it; but speaking...yeah no, I only know the basics.
