Yeah I heard that too, I think it's because the different British accents developed before the railway and things like that connected people.

I love Spanish accents, they sound sexy

I also like Scottish accents, but sometimes they're hard to understand

English accents bother me so much....everyone here in America perceives English people as the most intelligent people in the world. I read a NatGeo study that English people are just generally more closed-off than Americans, and tend to give less information about themselves upon first meeting. This, to the foreigner seems "intelligent" and reserved and blah blah blah and I just think it's people's gullibility driving them to think English are so smart. Don't get me wrong, English people can be smart, but not EVERY SINGLE DAMN ONE.
So that's why English accents bother me.

I always disliked Russian accents, even though I am Russian and speak it :/

    I really love Arabic accents.

Korean accents are the best. I go to an international boarding school and about 20% of the people here are Asian. I hang out with the Korean crowd and sometimes I pick up on their accents and don't notice until someone points out that I'm speaking in slightly broken English lol.....damn ESL students haha

Believe me, as an Englishman I can say we are definately NOT the smartest out there.
Joey Essex comes to mind, but hopefully he's the exception amongst us.

I like all accents in general. I wouldn't say that I find them attractive, but I live in such a closed off little area that meeting anyone from another country/ area is interesting.

I like Scottish, Irish, Brooklyn, New England, and Boston accents. Not a fan of Southern accents...but sometimes it can sound cute on girls. Sometimes...

I really like Australian accents and most African accents as well.

British accents can be amazing, but there are so many different ones.

I can't stand the Dutch and French accents though... but perhaps because I am Dutch myself and it sounds different to me than to non-Dutchies.

It's always nice to go to Holland. Must be 95% of the Dutch population that speak English and they are always nice to the British (except for when football is on the agenda).
I was surprised how much the Dutch dislike Germany though, as I saw an argument between them when I was there one time.

Being someone who has a southern accent I don't really enjoy it especially the ones you can't even understand. I do love English, Australian, Scottish and similar ones that's one of the many reasons I love Doctor Who.

I like many accents so for me it's more a question of what I dislike.
I don't know if it has a name to identify it. You see there's cockney and then there's something below which can only be considered the accent of a commoner. You hear them all the time on Jeremy Kyle. I'm not upper class and I'm certainly no snob but hearing them...urgh! It grates.

I also couldn't sit through an episode of The Only Way Is Essex - I'm no masochist. Lol.

Yes, I quite enjoy living here!
I myself love Germany and read German literature, but I agree, a lot of Dutch people seem to dislike our neighbours, don't really see why. I think it's rather silly.

I like "and" hate the English, Spanish and Frech accents.
As in, I would like to have the english, spanish or french accent but, I just hate how others will fall to the feet of the people with such accents. Lol

Yeah, as a Dutch person myself I am proud of the Dutch that we *can* speak English (instead of most French people, who can speak English but refuse to, at least in my experience (sorry for generalising)).

I think the Dutch hating the Germans comes from World War II but also because we often get confused. A lot of the Dutch mock the Germans for their language (imitating Hitler and such, so rude and childish) and then get angry as a lot of foreigners think Dutch and German are the same language, which it is not. Although it looks very very similar.

    ---

I LOVE Irish and Scottish accents, also Spanish ones...

And I hate French accent, but yeah. I don't really know why, I just don't like the way it sounds.

They seem to be pretty much arrogant (they just seem to be, they don't have to be:wink:)
And I don't know why all people love the spanish or italian one. I don't like it, too:grin:

Anyone who says they 'love the British accent' and that they also love the 'Scottish accent' gets a slap. It's like saying 'I love the American accent and I love the Texan accent too!'

Northern Irish accents are awesome. Scandinavians and the Dutch sound amazing when they speak English in a heavy accent. But I probably like these accents more because of their association with the people I know who have them.
