I never said Emos are criminals. I simply said they frighten me. Maybe becuase I rarely see them where I live and when I do I'm frightened
Well; they just have percings and alot of hair product. some of them are pretty chill when you get to know them. there's really nothing to be afraid of.
It was an analogy, to try and illustrate the ridiculousness of judging groups by a single member. Obviously not a very good one. Yes, fear is a primitive human reaction to new or different things.
I believe there was another thread where people were discussing prejudice? It doesn't have to involve hatred or feelings of superiority, it simply means you've formed an opinion on someone/something without rationale or experience. It's a prejudgment. You're frightened because they're different and you don't understand them. Well, you might be surprised to hear there are people who fear rich white men for the very same reason.
Why would anyone fear rich white men? That's absurd. Can you give a reason why? I'm just curious as to see why someone might fear "rich white men". Are you talking buisness men? Like Donald trump? Then ya he scared me to but he's a coward is he's gone bankrupt before he's not a good buisnes man he's more for drama and show.
Because you have all of the privilege. Because you have money and power, which is something we have never had, and have seen abused many times. I'm not saying that I think all rich white men are scary, just that in some ways I can sympathise.
White skin, being male, having wealth. These are things that grant you privilege. And historically, having privilege usually leads to abusing those who don't have it.
Emo can be hot. I like guys who wear eyeliner and have long and/or crazy hair and piercings. I find it really hot. I guess it's just not what I'm used to seeing, so it intrigues me.
Look. You have privilege. As a cis white upperclass man, it's important to acknowledge you do have it, you do reap the benefits of having it, and while it's not your fault for having it nor is it your fault for occasionally enjoying it, the problem comes from not acknowleding that not everyone has that same privilege or is at a socioeconomial disadvantage. See people from their point of view. Try to understand where they're coming from. And use your privilage to leverage the voices of the disadvantaged.
But you insinuated it in your first comment before by saying "privilege" ---------- Post added 25th May 2013 at 08:54 PM ---------- Here
No, that was me explaining why people can be afraid of privilege. I never once said I thought you chose to be born into your family, and I specifically said that I didn't think all rich white men were scary.
Alex, I suggest you read this and this. They're basically introductions to the concept of privilege. Nobody's suggesting that it was your choice to be born into a wealthy family. I didn't choose to be born white, and that's also a massive source of privilege. It's okay to have privilege. But if you do, you need to consider the fact that there are so many other people around who don't, that they matter too, and that what they experience and believe is relevant.
He looks cute. Don't generalize. It's what gives people like myself (being a visible metalhead), and emos and goths and such a bad name.
How could anyone be scared of emos? They're so cute and dear god, the tight pants and the guyliner.... *wipes drool off floor*. Ahem. Right. What was I saying? Acknowledge privilege, don't generalize, and tight pants on the right guy....Eh heh.... :3
