"Orlando", with Tilda Swinton. Almodavar's "All About My Mother". "The Spanish Apartment" has a lesbian character in it.

    The ones I really liked:
    - Electroshock - a Spanish film (cried my eyes out)
    - Albert Nobbs
    - A Single Man
    - Beautiful Thing (beautiful film!)
    - Fried Green Tomatoes (I guess there's a subtext)
    - Fire (Great film!)
    - XXY
    - Fucking Amal
    - The Children's Hour (Not exactly an LGBT film but it shows what one lie spread by a mean child can lead to and it features Audrey Hepburn )
    - Ji Sor (from Hongkong)
    - Be with Me (Singapore)
    - Fine Dead Girls (one of my favourties from Croatia)

    Couple of documentaries worth watching:
    - The Celluloid Closet
    - A Jihad for Love

    TV Series:
    - The L Word
    - Orange is the New Black (I actually like it more than The L Word :icon_bigg)
    - Last Friends (Japanese drama)
    - Tipping the Velvet
    - Fingersmith

Also, if someone's interested in anime:
    - Claymore (there's only a tiny bit though)
    - Daughters of Mnemosyne
    - Aoi Hana
    - Canaan
    - Noir (a bit)
    - Mai-Hime
    - Kanazuki no Miko
    - Simoun

There are more that I've seen but there many that were quite bad and some that I don't remember.

It is way better!! Could never get into the L Word personally..

Bound, Blue Is The Warmest Colour, Loving Annabelle (though when I think about it objectively it's a little creepy), Gia, and Boys Don't Cry are my favourites which I consider, like, definitely "LGBT" classified films.

Also.. one I just saw the other day, which is now a definite favourite:

    Life Partners!

Funny and quirky and cute! Worth seeing

Movies - La Vie d'Adèle, But I'm A Cheerleader, GBF, Circumstance, The Incredibly True Adventure Of Two Girls In Love
Tv - Carmilla (sort of), Orphan Black, Sugar Rush (this one is a bit out there but it's soooo good), Faking It, Orange Is The New Black, Lost Girl

Glad to see I wasn't the only one who found it a bit difficult to get into the L Word. Thinking about seeing Life Partners, is it good?

I'm always a bit surprised that not many people posting on this thread mention Weekend, which I absolutely love.

Structurally it's pretty similar to Before Sunrise, except that it's about two men and set in Nottingham, UK. Also, in Before Sunrise, while you see the couple falling in love, I don't know if I'd say that the couple are much changed by the experience. The protagonists of Weekend are, at the start, each a bit broken in some way, and you get the impression that their relationship has a really positive effect on each.

In particular Russel is a character whose friends know that he's gay, but he'd never discuss his love life with them, and he's clearly on one level ashamed of his sexuality. It's a film I watched several times as I was trying to figure things out.

The other film of note I haven't seen much mentioned here is Stranger by the Lake, a French film. It's set around a cruising site, and the main character falls for a guy who (early in the film) he spies killing another man. It's about how love/lust can blind us to what's good for us as the main guy acts in a way that any rational person would see is dangerous and stupid.

I haven't gone through this thread so sorry for any repeats. I'd like to start by saying I've never seen an English-language film with a gay theme that I truly enjoyed. There always seemed to be these undertones of complete outlandishness, or some I just found plain boring. I have found foreign films much much better capture the experience of being gay, at least from a love-not-meant-to-be perspective.

My top 3 films would probably have to be:

Out In The Dark (2012 / Hebrew) - About an Israeli lawyer and Palestinian student trying to study in Tel Aviv. I think the film captures well what it actually means to fall in love in a time and place that simply can't tolerate it. I really like the actors in this film.

Free Fall (2013 / German) - Focuses on two German cops falling for each-other. One has a pregnant girlfriend with whom he's moved in near his parents. The film really captures how emotionally selfish and unstable somebody can be while in the closet without even knowing it, and succinctly captures loss as a result of being untrue to yourself.

Come Undone (2013 / French) - Focuses on a romance between one Cedric, and Matieu who is on vacation in seaside France. A little melancholic for my liking, but I like French, the actors are sexy, and I like the filmography (dual time lines). It's a bit difficult to grasp the whole thing at first, but it's a great film.

I have a good one from Troma, a German movie called Killer Condom, which is about a hard-boiled, gruff detective in New York City who happens to be gay discovering a secret plot to exterminate gay people in the city and he and his transsexual ex have to team up to stop it with the help of their friends.

It sounds really silly, and it is, but it's one of those movies that, despite not being in English or even having a big budget, it shows that there are really awesome gay people out there, like the detective. I think the movie's based on a Swedish comic book.

Yes!! I am so glad someone else on here has seen Weekend! It wasn't my favorite LGBT film, but I thought it was the most thought provoking one. The first time I watched it, the ending really irked me, but I accepted it a little more the second time around.

If you have any impressions on the movie, I'd love to talk about it with you.
