I always have my antenna up when it comes to LGBT media. I'm happy with how far those characters have come in the past 5-10 years. Recently I came across a web series, which is not usually my cup of tea because there's a lot of crap out there, but I'm glad I gave it a chance... It's called "twenties: the series" and it's on youtube. There's some pretty good eye candy and the character of Ryan - one of the leads - is gay. I was surprised how real the character felt. There's a pretty awesome episode where he comes out to his friends, episode 4.

Episode 5 is pretty incredible too. It's called "Gay Is Okay" and had me rolling.

"Prayers for Bobby" Okay so I read you guys talking about this movie and I was lucky enough to find the whole movie on youtube and OH MY GOD. This is the saddest movie ever, I cried several times because the message was so powerful! I genuinely love this movie now and i have to thank you for telling me about it.

Is there a search-function-thingy somewhere for the long threads? Oh, I'm still trying to figure out how this works:wink:

Besides the ones already mentioned a lot, I watched Fucking Åmål (a swedisch coming-of-age film). More cute than anything else but yeah. Cute:slight_smile:

Mmm, "Maurice", one of my favorites that despite being an Edwardian period piece, ends on an optimistic note.
However, I find it hard to find a truly good gay film. I find that straight directors do surprisingly more justice for the situation that gay directors, who end have a tendency to focus on the actual physicality of sex. I saw John Krokidas complaining about straight directors "misinterpreting" gay sex; he references "Brokeback Mountain", because it isn't as spontaneous as Ang Lee portrayed it. I found Lee's work evocative because he focused on the emotion and the anger, rather than two people "getting ready". So I watched "Kill Your Darlings" and that was an unnecessary scene, it felt like filler. I mean, it's Daniel Radcliffe so I can't complain too much. I just feel like gay directors are trying to be honest and up-front with sexuality by showing all, but it comes off as blatant. Not that it's only gay directors - Lars von Trier is the guiltiest here. I just don't think that sensuality has to be unsimulated and up close, it can be implied, and implication relies on what our minds supply, which is arguably more powerful. Now that I'm done with my rant on gay film:
    Maurice
    Brokeback Mountain
    Yossi and Jagger
    But I'm a Cheerleader
    A Single Man
    Cabaret (oh yes it is)

Boys Don't Cry, Out in the Dark, and Blue is the Warmest Color are on my list.

I'm recent to watching movies on my computer, so far I've just watched Blue is the warmest colour, and Freier fall. Both are great but Freier fall left me with a deep sadness for the rest of that day and I still feel sad when I think about it.. idk if I'm overly emotional but
the end was just trauma for me... Kay Engel :tears:
