Also notice that in several schools in the American system, the idea of a curve is heavily used as well. This is where you base your '100%' on the highest achieving student. I've also encountered classes where the professors used the curve to make a set number of the class fail, and then place a specific number of students in each of the passing categories.

    We work on a 20-point system. 17-20 is a first (hardly anyone ever gets), 14-16.5 is a 2:1, 10-13.5 is a 2:2, 7-9.5 is a third class, 5-7 is a fail with chance of resit and 0-5 is a fail ~

;D I like your choice of classes ~
Except I think Paul is annoying xD

My semester isn't over yet so I don't have grades. I can estimate though.
    French: A+
Civics: Probably a D right now. I do only about two thirds of the assignments.
    Algebra: A-
    Orchestra: A+
    Chinese: A+ (higher than 100%)
    Physics: A
English: Probably a C right now. I'm one of the most prominent contributors to discussions, but I turn in all of my essays late.

I've only ever encountered curves in math/science heavily-test-based classes. Also, only bad teachers try to make a certain number of students fail
