    Answer Party Votes Pct.
    Yes — 182,360 51.6%
    No — 171,171 48.4

Things looking very, very bad right about now. 11000 votes is a LOT of ground to make up:frowning2:

    I know...

I feel like this is going to happen with every single state that tries to legalize gay marriage. And it's nuts.

Mmm, what about the absentee ballots? There's 100,000 of them and No On 1 put an uber amount of effort into doing them...

I have no idea if they've been included. If not, then we still have a great chance.

It seems like yes is pulling ahead. This totally sucks.

I was wathing CNN and they are still reporting only 38%. 50-50. So much for being the worldwide leader in news.

Some good news from Washington; with 42% reporting Domestic Partnerships are winning 52-48.

    Still down 12k in Maine.

I hope that's true. It would suggest this sudden Yes on 1 surge is due to the rural precincts reporting.

hopeful for washington. Domestic Partnerships is not equality, but maybe if it passes, it will prove that republican/conservative claims that equality for gays with marriage/domesticpartnerships having same rights and protection will destablaize the econamy.

Next, maybe we can get those who govern by hate to finally realize that pedophillia is a heteosexual crime, with 90%+ cases being heterosexual in nature, compaired to the claim that homosexuality=pedophillia.

I remember reading earlier that there was a huge turnout in Portland, and they had to photocopy ballots to keep up with demand. That could explain why it is taking longer there.

    Yes lead still growing:frowning2:

So it looks like we're going to lose Maine. And to be honest, I'm mad at myself right now. I didn't do anything to help. It just seems like there are so many votes and issues to keep up with(everything between my university to Uganda) but thats not an excuse. Anyway, I will do better next time.

On the positive, it seems like we're going to win in Washington and some other smaller places like Kalmazoo. So at the very least some families can celebrate tonight.

Remember people - this is a battle, not the war. If we lose, we regroup and come back fighting twice as hard next time.

The problem I think is that there are many people who dont stop to ask "will gays being allowed to marriage really have any effect on my life?"

The only valid answer to that is no, it doesnt effect my life. No one in the oppositon has ever shown a valid reason why gay marriage will effect their lives.

maybe they are afraid their children will be tolerent if gays are allowed to marry and society changes to accept them because they are terrified by the notion of a America that actually values the constitution, instead of saying they do, while spitting on it when no one is looking.

Hence why everyone keeps trying to write bigottry into the constitution.
