http://www.buzzfeed.com/dominicholden/hrc-bathroom-strategy#.rgK5OpL7y -Contains anti-trans rhetoric as well as lots of arguing fyi (it's also a pretty long article) . :icon_sad: Ugh. :eusa_doh: So what are your thoughts on this?
(Sigh) ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS, people are still not uncomfortable: 1. If someone wanted to rape you they would not need to dress or go somewhere with an abundance of people to do it and 2. people use the bathroom to GO TO THE BATHROOM, they don't want to rape women or children besides people CAN get raped by the same gender regardless so I'm not seeing how this is an issue.
Here's a funny tidbit: in the places in the world where you can decide which bathroom to go to based on your identity, there is literally not a single case of anybody ever using it to their advantage to do some perverted act. Not a single one.
Tell me if I'm missing something here you all, but when I'm going to the restroom I honestly could not care less what genitals other people in the bathroom have. I'm just trying to go to the bathroom and get out as fast as possible. Why do anti-trans people focus on the genitals of others in bathrooms so damn much?
sigh We really, really, need more gender-neutral bathrooms where trans/non-binaries can feel more comfortable using them. If I start transitioning while I'm in high school, that would be like a lifesaver to me. Of course then people will go like "People will have sex in the gender-neutral bathrooms!" But hey, who's to say a lesbian couple won't have sex in the girls' bathroom, or a gay couple won't have sex in the boys' bathroom? And don't even get me started on the locker rooms..
I don't get the bathroom obsession, but I suspect it has little to do with anyone's actual fears about getting attacked in the potty and more to do with just wanting to get their way because they don't like the idea of Trans people having rights or it becoming less socially acceptable to discriminate against them.
It's mostly from parroting these ideas off Faux News, the republican conservative party, and/or the now popular method of using tumblr as an excuse to avoid any and all means of discussing gender. Conservatives love to hype up the "war on bathrooms" because they don't actually know what trans people are; like many things, they need to perpetuate stereotypes and falsehoods to remain relevant, and liberals aren't much better at trying to educate others on trans issues. We have a lot of factors going against us; at the very least, some of us are allowed to exist peacefully...
If you're going to fuck someone in public, then you do not need non-segregated bathrooms to do so. Gender segregation will not stop people having sex in public, at all. They will go into the scary illegal bathrooms, or just do it at home - somewhere sanitary and private.
That whole "NO Men in Women's Bathrooms" thing disturbs me a lot. I think that a man who cannot be trusted to go into a women's bathroom without sexually abusing any women should be locked up for the safety of all women around him. The ridiculous idea that sexually abusing women is part of a man's nature, that he shouldn't be held responsible for it makes me feel unsafe.
It seems to me cis* people are more bothered about trans/NB genetiles than trans/NB people about cis. [*I know it's not all of you, but this is where the media is]. I do like the idea of gender-universal single stalls. Hang on, I came up with something a while back; "Who would you rather have in the toilets? A trans person there to just do their bussiness, or a cis person staring at you doing yours?" [I'm not saying any cis people look, but it will get them thinking and this will be my exit to walk out.] And the thing I'll say to people who are worried about NB people looking; "Where else would you like NB people to go, the street?" There's always going to be haters - with each new thing that challengs society, don't take it personally - the haters are just trying to work out how much it affects theirs and others life - and once they realise nothing/very little, then they move on to the next challenge.
I'm just got going to give the author of that crap any more traffic for that clickbait. Wonder how much that creature gets paid for each person that reads that? Without the income from the advertising on that page. It's feeding on ignorance and those that can't be bothered to think for themselves. Now I will admit that I have t had much contact with trans or non-binary people (to my knowledge anyway) but why this damn obsession with what other people do in the privacy of the bedroom, or bathroom stall? And, in reality, trans and non binary people didn't enter a bathroom to have sex, they just want to get out of there as quickly as possible before some idiot says something. Clicking on that link is feeding the troll.
Dunno about you but I'm too busy going to the bathroom and judging other women's footwear choices. Yea I'm a catty bitch sometimes. Take pride in your shoes girls. :rolle:
I'm beginning to think we should just abolish public restrooms, and people can just go in the bushes, and what not. Problem solved! =p
Do we even need gendered bathrooms? I mean we all go into stalls to pee not in the middle of the room
Well, not really. The urinals? I don't fancy a sausage fest while I'm waiting in the inevitable queue for a stall
