I don't think it's actually confirmed ISIS did this yet, however, it's likely. I wonder how France will respond to this?

While there are many terrorist groups in the world, the only one with the resources for an attack of this scale is ISIS.

This is what's puzzling me the most about this. I still don't understand what's going on or why is this happening. I haven't seen anything concrete pointing at the cause or the identity of the perpetrators. Maybe I'm not looking in the right places. Anyone care to provide some links that could illuminate on this?

I saw that, even my heart of stone sank. Really I am lost for words, it is such an incomprehensible event.

If this is not the argument the public needs to support a full invasion of Iraq and Syria, I don't know will. We tried that hands off approach with ISIS and now we see what everyday life is like in ISIS held areas, it's an absolute tragedy.

There's a hashtag going around twitter, "#باريس_تشتعل., " which translates to "#ParisOnFire" in our language. The ISIS supporters are spreading this hashtag around.

...Yeah. I'm pretty sure this is ISIS at works here.

I don't think that's true - unless ISIS were responsible for the Madrid train bombings in 2004. Heck, the people responsible for the London Tube bombings in 2005 were hardly terrorist masterminds - they grew up in Dewsbury and Leeds. They might be working in cooperation with ISIS, but you'd be surprised at how easy it is for people to make explosives.

This kind of attack is truly unprecedented in France.

This is the worst news I've heard in a long, looong time. I'm teary eyed thinking about all of the innocent victims and their families. It's sickening. I feel sick to my stomach. How can someone do something so horribly gruesome? I wish I were there so I could've personally destroyed the monsters of human beings who carried out this attack.

So many people, dead. And for what?...

That could well end up being the case... But I don't like operating on assumptions. Specially when talking about a tragedy of this magnitude. Before we point the finger, we should be absolutely sure who we are condemning. I saw the tweets, so far they haven't taken responsibility. It just looks like they support this massacre (because of course they do). I'm not giving them the benefit of the doubt, but I would hate it if they turned out to be just a smokescreen for what's really happening. I need facts.

    Power. People want power.

I totally agree with you. I'm not screaming "ISIS DID IT1!!", it's just logical to assume the group who most likely did it was ISIS, due to their recent activities. My neighbor's daughter's husband is in the airforce and has fought ISIS recently, he only came back about two months ago. I remember him telling about how ISIS pulls shit like this. Also, if the executions were done "calmly"... well... that rings a bell, doesn't it?

I actually hope it is ISIS, because if we find out it's a whole 'nother terrorist group at works here, then... shit. We'd be against another extremely dangerous group.

A lot of things have changed since then, the Al Qaeda is only a regional threat now. I would be extremely surprised if ETA was in any way involved considering the successful peace process with them over the last few years.

Ultimately the danger with this latest evolution of terrorism is that people are inspired by ISIS and work on their own and they slip under the security radar much easier.

Holy crap, I just heard about it...

There's some kind of special connection that Quebecers have with France and it almost feels like it's our brothers and sisters that got killed... So soon after Charlie Hebdo, too...

What can be done to stop this? With the international congress hold in Paris only two weeks away, how can we know that this won't happen again? Oh, those terrorists would love to have such an opportunity... Darn it :'(

France has entered an official state of emergency. All borders have been closed. I think is safe to say that congress is not happening.

The latest news is that there are now 153 people confirmed dead. I will be keeping all the victims and their families in my prayers. This is such a tragedy.

I've been hearing reports about fires in refugee camps now, some sort of retaliation to what's happened.

This is a big mess and every second that passes just makes me feel worse and worse inside.
