I never have. There are occasionally blood drives at school, but I am afraid that lowering my blood volume might be dangerous if it is too close to a cross country or track meet. My coach warned about it. I will probably donate blood when I am out of high school.

A few of you mentioned that blood drawing services have came to your high school.

I don't ever remember blood drawing services coming to my high school ever.

Has any one from Generation X era had blood drawing services come to their high school?

Twice as a young adult, never since I've been with guys. They won't take my blood & I'm not going out of my way to give it.

Congrats Sonic Boom on donating your kidney. That's great!

I've donated blood since the age of 18 a total of 45 times. I've recently started donating twice per year. I consider it my moral duty and needles do not bother me. The only side effect is I'm tired afterwards, so I usually come home and take a nap. Then I'm fine.

Gays can donate blood in Canada. We really need more donors! The last time I phoned for an appointment, the lady said, Bring someone with you. That's the first time I'd heard that request! which I think shows how great the need is.

Here schools and churches sometimes host blood drives and mobile units come to do them. Huge companies send busloads of their employees regularly which is great. Groups like the Hutterites are very faithful donors.

If you are able to donate, please do. Maybe go with a friend or group of friends and make it a fun event.

I was going to say you were heroic, Sonic, but I didn't want you to get a swelled head

Well, I should qualify my statement that gay males can now donate in Canada. Their blood can not be used for transfusions, only for other purposes such as research, unless they have been abstinent for 5 years. :icon_sad:

Many people are unable to donate for other reasons. However, if you are Canadian and qualify to donate, just go and do it. The Canadian Blood Services says on its website:

"Half of all Canadians will either need blood or know someone who will need blood at some point in their lives. Yet only four percent of Canadians donate."

This is pitiful... 4% of us are supposed to supply the blood for the whole country? It used to be 7%. Come on youngsters (who are physically able) ... step up to the plate and replace the faithful old donors who are dying off.

I've gotten off my high horse 11 years ago.

Now, I just feel incredibly blessed.

Unfortunately, I've never met the requirements for blood donation :frowning2: Once I do meet the requirements, I plan on donating regularly. It takes such a small amount of time, and can help so many people  plus you get a free cookie!

Well, you can choose a cookie, donut or granola bar AND a drink. In my younger years radio stations and businesses would give out much better freebies such
as a case of drinks or tickets to a concert or game.

At my job blood drawing services are invited to come over 2 times a year.

My employer would give all employees who donated a buffet comp for one person . A fourteen dollar value.

I don't like needles and the sight of blood so my donating days are over.

I can in 6 months, and I defiantly will. For some reason if you are under 18 you can only give every 12 months?

I never have donated blood and I probably never will be able to. I don't have the minimum weight that's needed (in Germany 50Kg). Same counts for stem cell donation. I'm aware of the fact that sometimes people who need a stem cell donation don't find a suitable doner in millions of people. So it's sad that I don't have a chance to become a possible doner.

But I'm an organ doner. That's all I can do. In case I die, some people will hopefully be able to survive due to my organs.

Hmm the answer depends, attempting to donate or actually donate...
i've attempted to donate 11 times, got rejected 7 times due to high hemoglobin level (highest Hb limit to donate in my place 18 g/dl) while my Hb level always around 22-26 when it got rejected.

only donated 4 times between 2011 to 2015.

I have my 2nd dose of HepB vaccine few weeks ago since i decided to be sexually active therefore i cant donate blood for at least 1 year.

After i can donate again, i'm sure i'll go back to blood bank and try to donate :icon_wink

i dont know if you count bone marrow as an organ tho :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: i donated mine for my brother bone marrow transplant procedure since he got leukemia

I picked 5-6 times, but ONLY if plasma counts. I donated plasma as a way to supplement my lack of income. Wasn't for the most selfless of reasons but hey, they got it every time :/ That needle hurts and the iodine they put on you feels so god damn weird. Plus they pwicked my fingewr :c

(Oh yea, I also lied about the high risk thing, because I think that's some bs, considering they test the plasma thoroughly and if anything were wrong with me they'd have told me, or at the very least not used it. >_<)
