Well... I didn't really deem this bit of triv' worthy of news, so I'll put it here. Today in England has been the hottest day on recored, causing at least two fires and temperatures soaring (for England at least) up to 38.5°c in kent. Anything above 10°c in England for those who aren't English, is extremely hot and the government starts issuing warnings... Idiots. People who expain things better than me:Hottest July day ever recorded in UK - BBC News
It's been absolutely roasting even in the North of Scotland, my window is still open at nearly midnight and the dog has been a restless little shit all day!
Wow!!!! That doesn't sound like fun!!!! Yesterday was about 25...and that was hot enough for me!!! I hope you have good air conditioning and easy access to some nice cold pools!!!
Wow! It's really hot there! I wish things were a bit warmer here. It's practically freezing in VN. Today the temperature will reach only 104 F (or 40 C) at the highest. Barely a warm-up! Well, beggars can't be choosers. I still take my daily walk at noon to the city centre and inhale a bit of, ah, that 'urban' air. Science has proven that petrol has certain properties which make the lungs stronger. Hm, who am I to disagree? On a more serious note, stay indoor, drink plenty of water and hope that the hospitals are not overloaded with people with heatstrokes.
Yeah that's pretty hot...I wouldn't call it 'extremely hot', but is deff what I'd refer to as a "hot dry day in the desert" Such temperatures aren't unheard of here, usually get a couple 100F+ / 38+C days in the summer .. but its also normally dry here too (as in humidity being in the teens or single-digit percents), so it doesn't feel as hot as humid places.
Take care. That's hot even for Australia, and we're accustomed to it. Air conditioning if you've got it (and having a fan on as well makes air con much better), keep water bottles in the fridge, take a quick lukewarm shower if you're really suffering. Also out some ice cubes or cold water into your pet's water bowl, they're uncomfortable too.
That's about 98F, right? Over here, we're going to be getting up to 110F/43c in good old Northern California... And that's supposed to be typical...
73 here today and upper 50's at night. 83 is expected by Sunday. Been a cool, wet June and July looks to be slightly warmer. No complaints.
yeah, the thing is with the UK getting these temperatures is that most houses aren't fitted with air con, so when the heat's up like this there's no escape and a whole bunch of people, usually kids and old folk, and dogs in cars.... (and apparently people going anywhere near a body of water) end up dying cause we ain't used to it and haven't got the appropriate measures to avoid it.
Stay safe and hydrate! When that happens in Australia everyone goes to the mall or beach because the mall has the best aircons!
Florida's been warm (about 86*F, 30*C) but not unusually horrible. The idea that it's been that hot in England and Scotland is crazy! Sorry for anyone there who isn't used to melting.
Take a large bowl and fill it with ice water. Leave 1.5-2 inches (3cm?) or so from the top and place it in front of a fan. Keep the water cool by adding ice as needed. It's not as good as real air conditioning but you would be surprised how much it helps. Just a tip from a redneck who has suffered through a couple of summers without A/C.
It's rare but we get that temp from time to time here in Massachusetts. But right now riding a nice 70F/20C wave of pleasant weather.
To put things into perspective, it reached 91F in Leeds yesterday, which is only the third time ever that it's exceeded 90F here (well, since records began in the 1980s). The last two times were in 1990. I can safely say that yesterday was the hottest day I've ever experienced in the UK. And to top it all off, we had an amazing lightning show last night. Back to normal today though - currently cloudy and 73F.
Yesterday was definitely the hottest day I've felt in the UK forever! Even the breeze was warm. Thankfully I was stuck in an air conditioned office all day!
