Wow, I feel the exact same way!! It's great to know that someone else thinks this way as well. Growing up, "Queer" was used so negatively against me that I don't like using it or having someone use it against me, even if it's just in fun. I've been open to people calling themselves that because I don't want to say " No, you can't identify yourself as that", that's just wrong but regardless, I just can't use it and I'm honestly afraid to say this to other people because I don't want them thinking that I'm just being rude and unaccepting.

As for changing, possibly. I would prefer LGBT just because I like the sound of it but I'm not going to plant my feet into the ground and refuse to change the name to something more suitable.

LGBT is a term most people know and recognize, and for that reason, it's the best term we have. The GSRM sounds like a standardized test, and MOGII sounds like some wise man sitting at the top of a mountain, and only if you can reach him will he answer your questions. Also if what Belle said was true, why would anyone use GSRM?

I usually say LGBT or -gasp- LGBTQ. But for me the 'Q' always stood for 'questioning', not 'queer'. I looked it up, and I guess the Q can mean either.
But LGBT is shorter, so it's what I say the most.

Yeah, not too sure about them other acronyms for reasons already stated.

There is also QUILTBAG which is easier to remember for some.

No offence intended in the slightest, but do you actually say, on the street to a random shopkeeper you're asking directions to, "Where's the closest LGBTQIA plus center?"

Also, what's the point in the extra letters if you're putting a plus on it anyway?

Meh, alphabet soup full of letters. I used to not like the term queer because of word associations, but I'm starting to warm up to it since it's a catch all, but LGBT is alright I suppose.

Random thought, if we add Omnisexual to LGBTA, it can become GOLBAT

I think LGBT is adequate, especially since people generally know what it stands for.

Yeah! I have never heard of that acronym 'mogii' until now and it honestly reminds me of the jungle book! So I like 'LGBT' because most people know what it stands for (including straight people)

I do wonder why in all these change the acronym discussions, "quiltbag" gets left out.

o: I've never actually heard of QUILTBAG before. That's an interesting option for sure. Will definitely keep it in mind in the future!

I prefer MOGII because LGBTQIAP+ is too inclusive for me. MOGII encompasses any orientation (gender, romantic, sexual) and sex with no questions asked. With LGBT, LGBTQIA, LGBTQIAP, I know people who can't be bothered to write down an extra letter when an orientation is recognized in that community, lol. It's just more flexible. MOGII isn't as popular as LGBTIAP+, though.

I would never use GSRM, ew.

I just say LGBT+ or LGBT but I never like the word queer, when ever I heard it, it was used negatively so I don't like the word at all.

I don't really understand what they mean by "lesbian is too fetishized." It's just a term used for homosexual women. There is no 'fetish' about it. I just prefer LGBTQIA+ because it covers the major bases and you can add other letters as necessary. But honestly, do we really have to use and acronym? Why don't we just call ourselves by our sexuality?

I have never heard the term Omnisexual, but Golbat? LOL we would be naming ourselves after a cartoon

In response to the Tumblr post: The A stands for asexuality and aromanticism as well.

I personally don't care what the acronym (or the word) is as long as it's not offensive.

Mowgli? Like in the Jungle Book? I'm confused.

    So many terms!

But if we need to include bears, I guess so.

I like QUILTBAG too; also 'HBT' is an interesting acronym from abroad.

"If you're gay and you're a guy, go rot in hell. Otherwise, if you're gay and you're a girl, that's okay because that's hot."

That was a quote from a person who had no idea what the fuck he's even talking about. And that's why it's fetishizing, and it's not only with lesbian women. It's with trans women as well.

Omnisexual is just another word for pansexual.
