I have started reading the Discworld series starting with "The Colour of Magic". I'm hoping to get more time over this summer break to read a bit more than during the school year.
Just finished reading My animals and other family by Clare Balding It was very good but not for anyone who is t even vaguely interested in horses
Right now, I'm reading two books: Fool Moon by Jim Butcher The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson
I read a synopsis of Syrup, and it sounds like something I'd enjoy...will definitely add this to my To Be Read pile. ---------- Post added 17th Apr 2014 at 07:26 PM ---------- Thank you for sharing your thoughts! I've considered reading Gravity's Rainbow by Pynchon, but I'm a little nervous to dive in...I'll have to remember to follow the Wiki if I decide to go for it. ---------- Post added 17th Apr 2014 at 07:28 PM ---------- I kind of loved Will Grayson, Will Grayson. I picked it up on a whim and ended up reading through the whole novel at the bookstore because I got so into it. ---------- Post added 17th Apr 2014 at 07:29 PM ---------- Cannot even tell you how happy that made me. XD
Since you're reading Isabel Allende, I'd like to recommend you to read some books of Gabriel García Márquez, Colombian novel laureate, who sadly happened to die today García Márquez is regarded by Isabel Allende as one of her major influences, and is one of the greatest writers in Spanish language ever. His writing is characterised by a smooth mixture of realism and fantasy called Realismo Mágico (Magical Realism), a genre in writing which he's considered to be the founder. Some of his most famous books are "One Hundred Years of Solitude", "Chronicle of a Death Foretold" and "Love in the Time of Cholera". By the way, "One Hundred Years of Solitude" is one of my favourite books ever.
Oh no! How sad that he passed away. García Márquez has been on my To-Read list for years...I can't honestly tell you why I haven't gotten around to a novel by him. I'll look for a copy of One Hundred Years of Solitude, since you said it's one of your favorites, and that sounds like a good place to start. Thanks!
I heard about Gabriel Garcia Marquez on the news yesterday. Broke my heart a little. I've got a collection of his short stories which, out of respect, I'll definitely be reading next.
