Hello everybody, hope y'all are having a wonderful day! So, here as of late there has been a lot of talk about an Empty Closets app for apple, android, etc., and there have been good points on both sides of the issue, and it got me wondering the necessity of it. If an EC App could help people not on a computer access Empty Closets easier, then it would be a great idea. But, I wonder how many people use their phones and tablets to access EC before they use a computer. So this thread has a poll to see how the people of EC access it. When voting, vote for the device that you use the majority of the time to access the site. For me, I use my phone and laptop about equally when accessing EC, but I voted for my phone in this poll.
I use the site on my iphone with safari private browsing(which is practically a lifesaver considering I don't have to delete my history every day) I would personally never download an app because you'd basically be outed to anyone who looks on your phone
The browser on my microwave. It's pretty fast, wish it had an RJ-45 jack so I didnt have to use Wi-Fi. It tends to drop when im cooking lunch. :icon_sad:
What about disguising the app to appear like something else? I use a phone because it's more difficult for people to read over my shoulder, and I don't have access to a computer all the time (plus it's slow).
I spend probably an equivalent amount of time using either a laptop or tablet. I'm not sure there is much added value in developing a dedicated app for EC as the forums are accessible enough through existing browsers. My two cents
Isn't access through your phone a matter of convenience? Most people have access to the internet through some type of computer. Sure it would be nice to chat with your friends on EC while waiting in the grocery line, but is it necessary.
Most of my actual activity on the site is done on my laptop. The only time I use my mobile device to access the site is if I'm going to be away from a long time. That way I can check up on things on here and not have >150 threads with new activity to browse when I get back. And when I'm on my mobile, I'm mostly just looking. If I see a thread I want to comment on, I just make a mental note to do so when I'm back on my laptop.
Could work, but then people download it thinking it's something else. From there, your ratings plummet. As for me, I use my PC.
That's if they don't read what it is... there are some vault apps that clearly state what they are in the app details, but after downloading are disguised to look like something else.
computer - desktop - had a laptop - kept breaking down - I despise win 8 that came with it - keeps pretending it is a tablet, crappy thing :***: :bang: :***: hate tablets , hate touchscreens, never frakkin' work for me :tears: only use my cell for emergencies and to find my way on my bike
I use iVan (my iPhone) all the time. In the past I used my laptop, but he died. And there is a desktop PC in my room, but due to power issues caused by my step-father's medical equipment I don't turn it on. Not to mention how each time I use it my whole family wants to know what I'm doing...
I mainly use my laptop, but I will use my (Android) phone if I'm out. Rather than creating an app, I think a mobile version of the website would work well. I'm sure there's a vBulletin plugin to create one.
I use my laptop. I don't really use my cell phone for anything other than calling and texting because it's not a smart phone.
