This is, I guess, a... Controversial topic. The other F word. I'm not going to say it in case it offends people. Ok, so, this word, I don find it particularly offensive. I know a lot of people do, but I just don't take offence. I see it as a word describing people like... Hipsters I guess. People who act all cool and have 'swag'. And they're really all idiots. I see it as a word to describe them. I just wanted to know what people think.
What... Faggot? I've stated before that I no longer associate the term with homosexuality. Instead.. I relate it to all the giant pricks in the world
I'm starting to find it less offensive as I become more comfortable with my identity. It's just a word, it doesn't actually mean anything offensive. It's just offensive by virtue of being offensive. That being said, unlike words like queer or fairy, I have never heard the word faggot being used in anything but an intentionally hurtful way, and that tends to turn me against it. It isn't the meaning of the word, it's the usage of the word. Also, it's just a really horrible word. The double g in the middle, and the t at the end? I don't know, it just doesn't sound right.
It's a cigarette. It seems like a commonplace word for one in England at least. "So you think that because you sit your kid down with an Xbox and you then go have a drink, have a faggot and not care about the fact that he's addicted to heroin, that makes you a good parent? Oh lah-de-dah!" -Jeremy Kyle
I have no idea what Jeremy Kyle was on when he said that... Fag is another word for cigarette over here, but faggot definitely isn't.
I thought of this, too. I don't get why it is offensive. Maybe it has to do with "male dominance" in sex and misogyny. Anyway, wrong topic. I just hate when I hear a guy say "I fucked her".
I have dear friends who self-identify as faggots... among other designations. But then, the peeps I hang out with are radical in-your-face queers. A straight person using it something else again. yeah, not a cigarette--but small pieces of kindling in a fire.
!!! not quite. and you get Jezzer Kyle over there? You poor people. A 'fag' is also an outdated word for a younger student that 'serves as a servant' for older students. And not in that way, apparently.
Faggot is an archaic word for a stick of wood. I can see where it was co-opted to mean a homosexual though. From the Free Dictionary: faggot1 esp US, fagot [ˈfægət]n1. a bundle of sticks or twigs, esp when bound together and used as fuel2. (Engineering / Metallurgy) a bundle of iron bars, esp a box formed by four pieces of wrought iron and filled with scrap to be forged into wrought iron3. (Cookery) a ball of chopped meat, usually pork liver, bound with herbs and bread and eaten fried4. a bundle of anythingvb (tr)1. to collect into a bundle or bundles2. (Clothing, Personal Arts & Crafts / Knitting & Sewing) Needlework to do faggoting on (a garment, piece of cloth, etc.)[from Old French, perhaps from Greek phakelos bundle]
Jeremy Kyle was on for a couple seasons here in the States. I always thought he was hilarious when he got pissed off because as an American, I couldn't understand a word he said. "No, no, no, no, aftercare, not on my life. Stand on your own two feet! Oh lah-dee-dah! Now you can go out in that direction like a petulant little schoolboy. Oh, lah-dee-dah, brilliant!" Can someone tell me what "Lah-dee-dah" means in England? As you can see, I'm a talk show junkie
...I would say it's usually used to describe a posh person or posh behaviour. Like "You're having tea and crumpets? Well, lah-dee-dah!" I have no idea what sense he's using it in there though!
