I feel that the only way that God would sit by and watch as people commit attrocities in the name of god, or in the name of any gods they believe in, is that God must not care, or God must be incredibly sadistic. Either way, God and I aren't on very good terms.
I'm interested in this as well. I'm assuming Blackfoot as in Native American. I'm 1/16th Cherokee and I'm very interested in that part of my heritage.
There's something i have a problem with, I'm a muslim... white as snow, not an arab not a Pakistani not anything but plain british muslim, When people ask me what religion am i and i tell them the truth they just sorta roll their eyes and tend to keep away from me an yea... x_x heheh grew up in Manchester and moved to London in 2002 and a lot of people get suprised when i tell them about it. I dislike people that keep away from from others just because of their religion. =/
I suppose I would count as agnostic, as I don't hold a belief as to whether or not a god or gods exist. I don't think it counts as religious beliefs, more of a philosophy, but I do consider myself a Humanist. I believe in Life, Earth, and People. Those are the only things that I have any certainty about. I think that we have been both the most creative and destructive force on this planet besides the Earth itself. The responsibility of this world and this life falls on us and us alone. Where as I think religion is very interesting and can be beautiful, and can inspire people to do great things, sometimes I worry that in a way religions encourage us to forget about our responsibility on and to this Earth, as well as our responsibility to each other. Anything that takes the focus off of the people around us, that divides us, and puts the after life over life or heaven over this planet worries me. Its like that saying, stop waiting for someone to save us, and start saving ourselves.
I'm basically Agnostic, but I do respect some aspects of Catholicism. I very much believe that people should give back to the community and be kind to others, and I also think that there could very well be a god out there. But I have to disagree with how the Catholic Church views abortion and gay rights.
Christian, specifically Roman Catholic which makes me a really horrible person to some. But I don't follow it rigidly, I am pretty open to other beliefs and ideologies.
Hey, Christians: What books of the Bible have you read, if any? I don't adhere to your religion, but I love your scripture. I'm reading Exodus right now.
Just out of curiosity: where do you live? I'm an atheist too, and not having a religion is starting to be the most common... erm, belief in my country. Recent figures show that 42% of people in the Netherlands identify as "not religious", whereas only 17% of people visit church once a month (or more) (can you tell I like demographics?)
For me I've read the common ones associated with holidays but when I used to attend church when I was younger I'd read Revelations, Genesis and anything with catastrophe or destruction to pass the time during a mass. Great imagery, lots of action and really inspiring when creating material for writing stories and such.
I don't know which part of Wisconsin you live in, but I do know that on the east side it's the same. I am one of the only atheists in my school as far as I know.
By family history/background, Christian. Although there were stretches growing up when I didn't see the inside of a church... Biggest church tie growing up was Unity (Unity not Unitarian). Today, I suppose I consider myself more spiritual than religious. Very common where I live (Washington) which is supposed to have one of the worst church attendance rates in the US. I can function in a liberal Christian church.
Other; Satanism. Not many know so off the internet, as I doubt it'd go over well with many I know. Especially with my family being Catholic.
I guess id say christian, of none. My brothers are catholic and practice it with their strict catholic schhol, but i never went there nor ever baptised or anything. But i do have belifs of the catholic religion but also contradictory ones that folloe muslim or spiritual believes, deffo not a litualist of the bible though not that many people are with these days.
