Psychological horror is best, but lots of bloodshed is fine too I haven't watched much anime within the past few years, so there must be plenty cool new stuff Recently I've watched several episodes of Black Mirror. It's pretty neat and the conversations it raises are interesting
Death Note is good. Goblin Slayer starts off pretty damn dark. Hellsing Ultimate, it follows the manga better so way more uber violence and Seras kicks way more butt.
Thanks folks - Death Note is a great recommendation! It was one of the first anime I watched. Everybody should try it. I'm watching Goblin Slayer - it's decent. Now I want to kill those damn goblins too! XD I'll add Hellsing Ultimate to my planned list. Examples of what I enjoy: Angel Beats! Another Ansatsu Kyoushitsu Black Bullet Black Lagoon Danganronpa Darker than Black Deadman Wonderland Death Note Death Parade Devilman: Crybaby Elfen Lied Ga-Rei: Zero Gakkougurashi! Gunslinger Girl Gyakkyou Burai Kaiji: Ultimate Survivor Highschool of the Dead Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Jigoku Shoujo Juuni Taisen Kakegurui Kenpuu Denki Berserk Kill la Kill Kiseijuu: Sei no Kakuritsu Mahou Shoujo Ikusei Keikaku Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica Mahou Shoujo Site Mirai Nikki Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt Monster Neon Genesis Evangelion Rozen Maiden Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei Shigofumi Shingeki no Kyojin Terra Formars Tokyo Ghoul Youjo Senki
Extremely ill or severely injured girls are turned into badass cyborg assassins and forced to work for a secret military organization First season focusses more on drama and questionable ethics than action. I felt bad for the girls. Plus it is awesome when they do battle. 8/10 brilliant stuff
Rurouni Kenshin is also really good, and kind of historicalish. The time period more so than some of the characters. Wolf's Rain is pretty dark from the few episodes I have. Lots of tech and cyber punk, but the wolves are almost extinct and can take human form. I don't think there is much nature left living in the world.
Devilman Crybaby Parasyte Death Note Attack On Titan Wolf's Rain Another Black Rock Shooter These maybe aren't all entirely the darkest, some lean more towards the edgy/dark than horror, but they are all pretty enjoyable (to me at least) artistically and story wise, most of them are psychological too (since that's kinda my jam lol).
You should try Promised Neverland, it's pretty new but it looks interesting (it may look innocent at glance but it's definitely not). I would describe it as dark and psychological. Or I would recommend Attack On Titan, my favorite.
There’s an anime show on Amazon Prime Video called Happy Sugar Life. I was going to watch it but looked it up on google first and decided not to traumatize myself because it looks really weird and dark. Same goes for Magical Girl Site.
I enjoy Black Mirror. Another TV series you might like is Twin Peaks and The X-Files. Those are old series though. I've always been into those types of series. Science Fiction, Horror, Thrillers. Those shows have always interested me. This is a short series but you might also enjoy Mindhunter. I believe they're coming out with Season 2 soon.
Thanks everybody Years ago I watched one episode of Dexter. Not my thing. Criminal minds might be worth a shot though
