The economy functions very differently than it did in the 1860's. The US isn't essentially an island all alone anymore and greatly leans on the world for success and the world it's sucess. Imagine the significant decline in the US if even just 5% of investments went elsewhere and a 5% decline in purchases of American goods abroad happened. There would be mass lay offs which would further suppress the economic situation etc... And the US doesn't have much more debt room to navigate that situation. Your image worldwide is very important today. It isn't a question if the US could militarily force it and be willing to lose people. It's a question of if your economy could survive it.
Wow I never knew that and I'm from NH. Hey, maybe we can secede together so it'll be more of a rectangle shaped little country. Then we'll cut Maine off from the rest of the US like Alaska and make everything even more confusing.
Yeah! Highfive! I go to New Hampshire every year! Lake Winnipesaukee is beautiful! P.S. only problem is the difference in safety laws. We require that you wear a helmet when on a motorcycle, whereas I'm pretty sure you guys don't even have to wear a seat belt if your over the age of 18. Oh well, I think it would work out anyways. ---------- Post added 15th Aug 2016 at 11:48 PM ---------- Just realised, if we combined, we could become an even larger maple syrup producer!
I worked for an energy provider for 4 1/2 years in a call center here. My uncle works in the natural gas pipeline business in Texas and my aunt did for some time too.
