"I'm better for LGBT people then Hillary" *Picks bloke who signed license to discriminate bill as VP*
I'm doing likewise here, recalling the anti-LGBT laws and initiatives he so strongly supported. Such an endorsement is definitely a nod to that section of the American populace that thinks the gays have gone too far, and we need to 'take back' America...from anyone who isn't white, Christian, and 'normal'. ~ One odd thing with Pence: He's supported numerous free trade bills throughout his career, arguing that US companies should be able to move to whatever country they please, even as companies have left Indiana for Mexico and elsewhere. The entire 'free trade/tariffs' argument aside, this puts him at sharp odds with Trump's blathering about the issue. That said, Trump makes his clothes and products in China, and has had no problem in outsourcing labor; he claims to support tariffs and walls and barriers to trade, even as he has benefited from the same outsourcing he condemns. How anyone could take this idiot seriously is beyond me.
Trump's called off the reveal because of what happened in Nice. Pence is still subject to the noon Friday deadline to withdraw from the Indy governor's race though.
Now I wait for the local neo-Nazis to rejoice about "how they've finally got a candidate worth voting for" ugh. :eusa_doh:
I honestly know next to nothing about Mike Pence, but it sounds like Trump has chosen someone a bit more socially conservative than himself. Perhaps this will help him win over evangelicals and others who doubt Trump's commitment to socially conservative policies. He certainly is making an intelligent decision if he wants to win. But I can add this to a list of reasons why I will not be voting for him...
Mike Pence on the Issues Here is just a list of what Pence has done to hurt the LGBT community so far: Future of conservatism demands traditional marriage. (Feb 2008) Voted NO on prohibiting job discrimination based on sexual orientation. (Nov 2007) Voted YES on Constitutionally defining marriage as one-man-one-woman. (Jul 2006) Voted YES on Constitutional Amendment banning same-sex marriage. (Sep 2004) Rated 7% by the ACLU, indicating an anti-civil rights voting record. (Dec 2002) Rated 0% by the HRC, indicating an anti-gay-rights stance. (Dec 2006) Amend Constitution to define traditional marriage. (Jun 2008) Voted NO on enforcing against anti-gay hate crimes. (Apr 2009) Check out the link above to see what he has done to hurt women's rights, immigrant's rights, animal welfare, the environment, and other issues.
Okay, we officially cannot let Trump get to power now. If he wins, I'd put the chances of him being assassinated as pretty darn high (not saying that to be pro-assassination, but people who offend that many people don't live long in the presidency), which means we could actually have him as a president. That cannot happen. On the bright side, I should be able to use this to persuade my aunt that she absolutely cannot vote for him, and I suspect this is going to turn off quite a few of the moderate people who were already 'on the edge' as far as supporting him went.
And here's a great articulation of why: http://www.nytimes.com/2016/07/13/opinion/the-gop-partys-over.html?src=me&ref=general&_r=0
I will join a public protest if Trump and Pence win. I will also shake my head at this country and feel shameful as more intelligent nations laugh at us. Btw, Trump is a rapist and a sociopath.
Mike Pence is pretty terrible. He's been on the wrong side of history repeatedly. He hates women and the LGBT community. I think he may buff up Trump's image a bit with the sane bloc of the GOP. I don't think a lot of people know much about him so won't realize what a heel he is.
I suppose with a Trump/Pence ticket the GOP are well prepared in the event of The Great Cornholio turning up.
Did you all see the Trump/Pence campaign logo? It's ... interesting (warning: can't be un-seen). Box Turtle Bulletin » Earlier This Week, The GOP Platform Committee Declared Porn a Public Health Crisis
