The word “cisgender” to denote someone whose gender identity matches the gender they were assigned at birth, has been added to the Oxford English Dictionary. Oxford English Dictionary adds ‘cisgender’ along with ‘twerk’ · PinkNews
Well, it's a step forward, but sex =/= gender. So that definition is wrong, or at least a bit poorly worded.
 That's a strange view. It's a strange way to look at it, and I am pretty sure you were joking, but it is a fairly flawed point. I mean, it is a step forward for transgender individuals because it raises awareness of trans* issues. Because most people don't know that they are cisgender, or even don't know what cisgender is, this will help them to realize that not everyone is like them. Not every person has their assigned sex and gender matching, and people need to realize that. Just having "transgender" and "non-binary" without "cisgender" makes it look like gender minority people are a rare exception, or even not real. If you talk about being cisgender as well, it helps to show that there is a spectrum of valid identities (or, actually, this is an overlap of two spectrums - sex and gender). defining cisgender is a step forward for transgender people because it raises awareness and helps people to learn about trans* issues.
The best way to word it would be "An individual who's gender identity matches their biological sex at birth" because if you go with "assigned" then that causes a whole host of problems for intersex people as well as people who are mis-assigned on purpose, as rare as it is, it does happen.
Tbh i think tumblur would be better off focusing on how italians, blacks, mexicans, people from india, etc are portrayed on tv or protesting whats happening or has happened in africa and russia then any of this retarded bullshit. ---------- Post added 28th Jun 2015 at 09:18 AM ---------- Tumblur isnt about helping the underpriveledged or changing the status quo. Its about censorship and naging a bunch of 13 year olds who are obvioulsy from 4 chan and obviously looking for someone to rebel against. Its about feeling better than others in the same way all slactivism is. Its not about helping children in africa. If you really wanted to do that we would be trying to overthrow warlords and shit like that. There were fascist canabal dictators and no one ever gave a shit. We only gave a shit about koney way after the fact. None of these people care entire tribes are being systematicly executed. Its all about not offebding anyone. None of these people are going to say the quaran is sexist or question the pope or any of that shit. They dont care about the corporate prisons either.
At first, I didn't know what this meant. I learned it here. What does the prefix "cis" stand for? Is this for conformance that is BOTH physical and in tune with how one identifies?
Cis- is a Latin prefix that means "on this side of". It's the opposite of "trans-" which means "on the other side of" or "across". So yes, in this case, it means that the physical aspect and the mental aspect/identification match up. They're on the "same side".
Thank you. This is the first time in my life for which having taken Latin would have been more useful to me than having studied a modern language. I kept looking at it and the only thing that went through my head was a scrambling of C.S.I., thus making it "Crime Investigation Scene." Now I know.
