I just would like folks to reflect on how horrifying an experience it is to sit in a room and watch your community have a referendum on your existence and on your human rights. I hope Gavin has his parents' support hardcore. Honestly, there are times in my life where I feel like my calling is to be trans folks' security detail. ~ Adrienne
Of course it's Gloucester. Virginia is such an interesting mix of politics. In one part of the state my transgender friend and I can use the same bathroom with no issues, in others I have to stand guard to make sure she can pee in peace. Seriously hope the state I love does the right thing here.
I must say that most schools wouldn't know how to react, like mine. I've started to cross dress a bit and I've seen them react in a puzzled way. The thing about schools are they don't know we are serious. My school has rules on bullying like "Homophobia is just as bad as physical bullying and will be treated as an equal to any other kind of bullying." but no where does it say anything about bullying transgender people because of what they can't help. As a matter of fact I was ready to report a mistake in the rules but I knew it would just slip out of their mind after school had finished and we all rush out to go home and buy sweets. But there are laws where I'm from that will protect people like me, trans people, and I'm glad there are people who will back me up by saying it's wrong to judge anyone by gender identity or sexual preference. ride:
I wish I could take my school to court... That'd be so fun... Anyway, good for him! I hope he wins the case... If he doesn't I'll be so pissed... He also has an awesome surname, which is also nice.
