Hey there! Didn't see you first glance. Hello! :smilewave And I agree, it's always nice to find other writers. Let someone know if you want to talk about... anything, really.
It's an awesome feeling, isn't it? I remember the first story I ever finished. It's not my best work, too creepypasta-esque in its style for me, but has a special place in my heart because of how overjoyed I was when I finished it. The first serious project I ever finished, and I wrote it on my phone. I currently have four or five others waiting in the wings to be finished.
It's a great feeling. I don't think the story I just finished is my best work either. I'm also working on a story that I think is better than the one I just finished. It made it hard to finish that story. The only stories I ever finished were super short stories for school. I think one of them was called "The Snake That Cried Human". I wrote it in grade 6, so it's quite a while ago.
Hey everyone, Does anyone know the term, or if there is a term, for when speech is used in poetry? Example, from Brothers, by Carol Ann Duffy: At random quotes from the play we were in. There's no way in the creation of God's earth, I say. They grin and nod. (The speech is italicised here, as it is in the poem.) Thanks, Joe.
I'm not sure if there is a term for that. Does anybody have any tips with naming fictional places/countries/world's by any chance?
I sometimes name it after real places (Manchester, Calumet, Thompson, Worcester, New Manchester, Cudjoe, Torch, Boca Chica) Sometimes I use name generators (Jacopo, Shickaquanock, Ilhampton, Maynard) Sometimes I translate things into other lanugages (Gojian, Toyand) And sometimes I just combine random sounds (Tavtitotiq, Famenta) I'm wondering, who else names chapters, and if anyone else has a way they do it. I used dates for my 4th, quotes in those chapters for my 3rd and part of my 4th (along with the date). For my 5th, I used "The ___", and for my 6th, since it'll be Welcome to Famenta, I might use "Welcome to ___" or maybe the title of a song that has to do with the chapter (which I can do since it's a private story).
I like to use last names. When I had to name all the countries in my last book, I used a last name generator and just picked the ones that sounded like they would be countries.
I write almost anything. I love to write poetry and fan fictions the most though. My teacher tells me my writing is really advanced. And I write for my school newspaper.
I own an LGBT entertainment/blog site. If anyone is ever interested in posting your stories or blogs on the site, let me know!
Not unless you pay the writers (also, be careful asking for submissions. No personal info can be shared on the site. Privacy policy). -- Going to work on a screenplay for a short film. Always wanted to write one so why not now?
OMG. So I was looking for ONE writing resource list for a friend... and... uh.... Found more than one.... Fuck Yeah Character Development - dfdwritingworkshop: Writers Club: Ultimate... http://www.heretocreate.com/2007/11/01/resources-for-fiction-writing http://tyjohnston.blogspot.com/2012/01/100-web-sites-for-fiction-writers.html http://www.leemac.freeserve.co.uk/hints.htm http://www.angelfire.com/ca3/cthulhudrew/write.html http://fuckyeahcharacterdevelopment.tumblr.com/nav https://storymask.wordpress.com/2006/09/17/writers-resources-a-list-of-useful-sites-for-writers/ Thought I'd post them here, in lieu of being able to do anything else, as I'm starting to get sick AGAIN (sonuvabich). Hope this helps! Write on!
Sharing your stories is fine, just remember that if you're planning on publishing them with a publishing house or magazine that posting them on a public forum or anywhere else public online can lead to legal problems such as plagarism or your story being rejected by the publisher. Publishers tend not to buy a story that can easily be found and read for free online. Even if they do, you'll get less for it. :/ You can still share them if you'd like, but be cautious. (Sorry for nagging.)
When i am done with school, i want to write a book (I had this awesome idea when i was 15) and right now I am writing some short stories. ( I LOVE Stephen King and read his first book when i was ten )
*sigh* I had a whole chapter of work saved on a website (not this one, another website) that seems to have deleted me from their database. I'm probably not the only one to lose their account either, it seems that the website seems to be having some difficulties recently. It's annoying because the story was actually starting to go somewhere, and now I have to start again from scratch and quite frankly I'm not sure if I even want to. Maybe this story is better off dead. ---------- Post added 3rd Apr 2016 at 04:54 PM ---------- Not just that one chapter either, I've lost all my work on all my stories. Back to square one I guess.... :tears:
[/COLOR] Good news! My account is back up, and so are all of my drafts and chapters! YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! :eusa_danc I'm not doomed after all! WOOOOOO *cough* I mean..yay.
Yay, that's great! I was getting super sympathetically depressed there! Good luck on all your stories. Maybe you should back up your work from now on. ---------- Post added 3rd Apr 2016 at 05:12 PM ---------- Why not start now? A few lines here and there can add up quick, and every little bit counts. No matter when you start, I wish you luck. Like I've said, like, three BILLION times already, I'm here to help you with anything writing related if you want/need my help. Have fun. Meanwhile, I now need to write.
I don't know if every bit of writing one does needs to directly contribute to a big project, because my writing from years ago was horrendous in comparison. But you're right that every bit counts as experience, which can help for when you do start a serious thing like a novel in earnest.
