This baffled me. So you are saying that, the people whose sole job is to save people lives, can in fact refuse to do their job because they don't want to? Who do they think they are, deciding who should and should not live?

All human lives are equal, but some are more equal than others, huh.

Just heard of this before seeing this thread....

Just.... Gah! I hate ignorant people! Why does this world have so many of them?? And why are they put in powerful positions??

Not sure if it would help, but if anyone wants to contact them and say something...

Here is all is for Michigan citizen's :
    Contact info is below:
Speaker of the House Rep. Jase Bolger
    Phone: 517.373.1787
    Email: [email protected]
Senate Majority Leader Sen. Randy Richardville
    Phone: 517.373.3543
    Email: [email protected]

It is not in effect yet, maybe if enough people protest it might help. I'll probably send an email.

An appalling demonstration of the very worst of humanity. This applies not only to those who would refuse life-saving treatment, but to those who offer these people the protection of the law, and perhaps more so.

Well that figures. I'm attending grad school in Michigan :rolle:

Luckily the governor is a pretty moderate Republican, more so than Jan Brewer. Surely he wouldn't sign that

Damn. I don't live in the US but I find this infuriating! Aren't doctors supposed to save people NO MATTER WHAT?!

When you're hired to do a job, you have to do the job and you can't make up the rules as you go along. Imagine how well this would go over if a person in customer service decided who they were and weren't going to serve...how would the supervisor react?

And to all the people out there that say no one would go as far as to let someone die, just look at the pastor who was just saying all gay people should commit suicide.

isnt there a hippocratuss oath or something in medical field where you can't discriminate saving someone because of race, gender, sexual orientation, or whatever?

This is just ridiculous to read though.

Woah, woah, woah, wait a sec. Isn't that against the Hippocratic Oath? And how in all that is logical and right can someone just ignore or refuse to help someone who is near death, isn't that in and of itself against the LAW?

    ^ Apparently not.

The scary thing is, several states are like this right now. I've been told that Illinois is one of them. So, next time someone calls 911 on me, there's only some chance that I'll live.

This is so terrifying to read and it's horrible to think that my right to exist is less important than someone else's right to force their religion into my life

Are "religious freedom" bills like this going to be a recurring theme in America now?

And this is where I think Republicans are so fucked up and bigoted: Note, this passed on a party line vote: meaning EVERY Republican supported it, and every Democrat didn't.

I don't mean to step on any toes, but the vote speaks for itself.

This stuff actually really scares me. It was stuff like this that was passed in Germany against the Jews before they rounded them up and put them in concentration camps. People say to just trust that the goverment will work itself out and we will get equality eventually. But when laws like THIS are being passed, just to harm us, it makes me wonder if it could get worse...And that is precisely why I'm not gonna just sit down and take it, I'm gonna fight go have laws like this removed
