Gay gay gay gay gay! Lol referring to myself I use the word gay always, or I just say I like
Women. In a conversation talking about 2 women in a relationship though I will sometimes use the word 'lesbian' only because it's easier than saying something like 'that gay women couple' cuz that just sounds weird! But I would never tell someone 'I'm a lesbian' because I HATE that word. I think it's because men especially when they hear the L word the first thing that pops in their minds is they think of those sluts in porn as 'lesbians' which they are obviously not gay but IMO I don't think people take the word 'lesbian' very seriously..I mean I could be wrong but that's just what I think

This is going to sound weird... but the word "lesbian" has such a pretty color to it. It's a pretty minty, almost turquoise green. Gay is just a boring brown to me. So I rarely use the word gay to describe a female homosexual. And I'm a big Sappho fan so I use the terminology to honor her in a way.

Synesthesia in terms of sexual orientation... Cool.

Personally, I use both. Since determining my orientation, when coming out, I've said that I was 'gay', but I occasionally throw stuff into conversation with 'as a lesbian' (contextually: a majority of my friends are bi-identified, so we talk about sexuality a lot). I was originally slightly uncomfortable with the word lesbian, but eventually, it helped me to comprehend my sexuality a bit better, and so I've come to be perfectly fine with it.

I get why some women don't like the word lesbian because of porn , I have used the word lesbian have straight men thinking I'm bisexual or ask me even if I'm lesbian if I am into men still or bi . But I still like the word lesbian and don't want to abandon it . Even though that word has gotten me more negative than good , my coming out as been good either and pretty much stinks . I'm not fully out where some of my friends think I'm a monster and the other is like well she's lesbian and not into men so I'm going to ditch her . I still like the word but no matter what if lesbians stop using the word lesbian we will always be viewed as the women from the pornos by men unless we're butch . doesn't matter if we call our self gay or lesbian . But if you don't like the word that's fine but not using it isn't going to change how people view lesbians .

I use the word Lesbian because it makes me feel more femininely ''gay'' I don't like the word gay because it refers to the gay man more often then not.. Though it has the same meaning for men and women I just prefer to have a different name for my orientation then what gay men use I guess.. Overall it doesn't bother me much if I used either term to identify my orientation publicly it's just preferred to call myself a lesbian sometimes.

I usually use lesbian, I guess it's because that's the only option in my native language,so I just kept doing it in English as well.

For lack of a better word, lesbian, just to clarify my sex, but it doesn't 100% describe who I am into though.

I find the word lesbian a little awkward, but I don't mind using it at all.

I like the word lesbian and I use it often to describe myself, but it does carry an almost dirtiness to it, which is very strange since it dosent have a negative history. I personally think that lesbian is a cool word, but when I first heard it I wondered why gay guys dident get a cool name.

  12. I used to feel very uncomfortable calling myself a lesbian. I think this is largely due to the fact that a lot of people (mainly straight women) use it in an insulting manner. I've slowly become more comfortable with the word, but I still use lesbian and gay interchangeably when referring to myself. A lot of the time, I use the latter.

I agree with this many straight women use it in a negative way , made me not want anything to do with the word at first

Sometimes it's strange for me to say 'I'm a lesbian' because it sounds like I'm a plant (language differences xD) or it's awkward because it's often used as an insult. But yeah, both are okay.
