English is my native language, I speak rough French and a love/hate relationship with Irish (you learn it since you're six years old and you still cant put together a perfect essay, you do start to wonder if it's a language you actually know).

I'm currently learning Japanese, then it's on to Italian, Swedish, and Chinese, in that order!
Really though, I'd love to know the basics of all the major languages!

How common is speaking Irish in Ireland?

  3. I definitely want to learn Japanese, first and foremost. I took Japanese 1 in 10th grade and I want to take it in college too and I want to teach it or teach Japanese kids English!! I also want to learn other Asian languages, such as Korean, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Thai!! I hope I learn it all and I hope you learn all the languages you want to as well!!

Though Irish is the official language of Ireland, English is the first language. Because of the "official" status, Irish is a compulsory subject for everyone who attends school in Ireland from around the age of 6 to the end of high school! (unless you move here when you're older than 12, in which case you get an exemption.)
But the teaching is appalling, so the amount of people who can actually speak fluent Irish are the people who had two fluent parents and an Irish speaking community growing up! That said, there are a few schools that teach only through Irish, but they tend to be small and few!

I am fluent in Catalan, Spanish and English and know/understand enough Italian and French to defend myself in them.

Native language is English. I'd love to learn a Nordic language, maybe Swedish or Finnish. I can speak a smidgen of Spanish.

My first language is English, and while I'd love to learn every language out there, I mostly want to learn French, German, Japanese and Mandarin.

It would be cool to learn ancient languages like Pali or Sanskrit. But it would also be cool to learn French or Spanish.

Would you think that Irish is on its way to disappearance, or it's not that endangered?

I am natively an English speaker, but I am learning Latin and I love it. I think I am going to be a high school latin teacher.

I speak English, a little bit of French, and a little bit of Greek (not that much, though). I would like to learn more French, and possibly Greek.

Okay, so let me just say that I am in love with foreign languages. I speak English (as you can see), Russian, Spanish and French. Polish is my mother tongue and you know what? I'm really glad I don't have to learn it, because it's hard enough for Polish people, I can't imagine how someone who is studying it must feel

Are you a native Armenian speaker? If not, how difficult do you think it is?
