I love 'em. Just like I love "action-macho-guy" movies.

Well, beauty to the toad is the she toad, as Gertrude Stein said. I think. Unless the toad is gay, which see of all people might have considered!

Odd how tastes vary...I think, in my case, I just don't like violence in general, or seeing it enacted---it makes me sad/depressed that our world is so violent, and full of anger. Such that though I acknowledge that people are in fact violent, I like to limit the ways I ponder and expose myself to it. I explore it in poetry, in writing, but not so much as a kind of 'recreation'.

I play violent video games all the time and I honestly don't think that there's that much of a causal relationship between video games and violence. *shrugs*

While I will say that violent video games are not for the REALLY young, I don't believe they should be banned entirely. If someone can't understand the difference between a video game and real life, that is not the video game's fault (neither is it the person's usually), but I don't think they should be barred from use by those who like them.

People have said video games were too violent ever since Doom came out. Yes, some unbalanced people have been influenced by violent video games to do horrible things. I feel like banning all violent video games is an overreaction. A person should play them in moderation.

Should you be giving your six year old Grand Theft Auto? Absolutely not. The rating system was put in place for a reason. People always seem to think that their little kid is the special little snowflake that can "handle it" and yet time and time again we find out that they really aren't mature enough.

Should they be banned completely? Well, should R rated movies be banned completely? Should anything that we find unpleasant be banned? I don't think it should. It's one thing to restrict something from the public, but it's another thing to shelter people from unhappy realities. Video games aren't the only culprits that endorse violence. If something is wrong with violent video games, there is something wrong with all violent media. You can't just pick and choose what is acceptable violence and what is "good" violence, because people weren't watching 300 for the historical accuracy.

As for my opinion on the games themselves, I don't care for most of them. I'm a priss. I like Pokemon, Zelda, Harvest Moon, and I'm not ashamed. I just don't get a rush from seeing blood and guts. I play things for gameplay. Atmosphere, story, and visuals all have to come second. Frankly, I find the first person genre boring. I find guns boring. At their core, a lot of the M rated games just aren't fun to play for me.

I love violent video games. Great way to get rid of the stress and anger that usually causes me to yell at everyone and everything in sight.
Generally, most people do not go batshit after killing people in a video game; doing so would probably mean that they already had issues.
These games aren't really intended for immature people, though, so...
(Maturity, in my opinion, isn't connected with age. It's one's attitude that makes one mature.)

I like violent video games like Borderlands or Fallout (both of which got an 18 for mainly gore), it's not the developer's fault that a mother bought a game for her 10 year old child where headshots make the person's head explode. I don't think they encourage violence either, I just think that's a scapegoat for parents and newspapers to bitch about.

Everybody in the world (or not) that play GTA just take them time to kill innocent people with no reason, but it's not cuz of it them go out of their place and think "hey, let's play real GTA and kill some dudes" or "look, it's a perfect day to kill people"
Violent games are just it, games. People who suposed use games to make bad things will do this with or without the violent game.

  11. I actually love violent video games. Yes, they are very violent, but it doesn't really correlate to making our lives violent, well in my experience.

I've been playing GTA until San Andreas and I've played Call of Duty (most of the series). Both very violent games, and I'm not aggressive. Video games don't make us violent, it's our conscious.

However, I believe that little kids shouldn't have access to these games. Just wait until preteen years to play.

I suppose its easier for a parent to blame a videogame than their own parenting.

I completely agree with it. Everytime they say in the news "people x kill other imitating the troll of the violent game troll-land" or "kids that had a fight were addicted to violent games". It's easier blame games then the country's or parent's education.

grew up playing violent video games like mortal kombat which i think was way more gory and graphic than grand theft auto was and came out just fine. don't think video games can be blamed for that or any form of entertainment that involves violence. some people are just screwed up like that where they're violent by nature.

I love 'em. I've been playing them since I was a kid and I doubt I'll ever drop the controller.

I for one am tired of people trying to ban video games. It's like pornography or how music was decades ago. You can put a ban on them or an age limit, but kids will still find a way to get them. It's more annoying when soccer moms buy the games for the kids, being fully aware of the content and the "Mature" label rating and they bitch about how graphic it is. The same goes for the people in power and other brainless saps who say video games are the cause of school shootings and other acts of violence.

So I'll just assume that the Pontiac's Rebellion school massacre was fueled by Call of Duty and Grand Theft Auto. Too bad that Pontiac's was in 1764 (210 years before Pong). Charles Whitman went on his spree at the University of Texas in 1966 (8 years before Pong). It's sort of like when politicians and the parental groups blamed Marilyn Manson on Columbine.

I honestly don't care if a kid plays Halo. Again, I was playing Grand Theft Auto and Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six when I was about 11, so I'd be the pot calling the kettle black. But the thing with kids are that they're smart for the most part. They know the difference between reality and fantasy. Saying that a kid doesn't know the difference between a violent video game and an act of violence in the city would be undermining their intelligence.

Go watch Penn and Teller's Bullshit! episode on video games. They give a kid a gun and have him fire it to prove a point. >> Penn and Teller: Bullshit! - Season 7 Episode 3 - Video Games - YouTube

tl;dr -- I love violent video games and it pisses me off that people want to ban them because this stupid belief that video games are the cause of real life violence (they paint that all acts of violence like shootings are attributed to video games or music or some shit like that). It undermines the intelligence of kids who know the difference between reality and fantasy. Plus, banning them would be just like the ways they tried to stop kids from buying music in the past--failing completely.

It's not that many people actually believe they cause violence. It's that they're a celebration and normalisation of the culture of violence. It's a symptom, not a cause, and perpetuate the idea that violence should be welcomed in society.

Your going to see alot more Videos of Violence, Warfare and Massacres on news channels than you will in a video game, If we ban violent games than we need to ban violent TV shows, Books, Art and Music. People will always blame something like games, music and Comics.

..Actually, most people do think video games cause violence. However, if we're going to ban video games, then we should ban mention of violence on the news, violent movies, cartoons, a number of prime time tv shows, music, etc.
