Though the Vanil-line aren't one trick ponies. They have a few different movesets that they can run. I've run two personally in my competitive teams. xD

First thing that comes to mind for 'ceasing to exist' after evolution is Missingno (or one of the other glitch pokes that I'm not going to try to type ).

When it evolves, the fungus kills paras and takes over control of it's body.

As a paras, it eats tree roots, but the mushrooms take all of the nutrients.

 

Viewed from above, I am often confused for a Pokéball.
