Re: Margaret thatcher is dead Yes, because i'm sure she respected the people killed by Pinochet, the poor who starved under her, the millions who lost their jobs, and so on and so on. Why should any decent person show her any respect?
I will never forget Section 28, something that would only be considered coming from the minds of a bigot Section 28 was a huge step backwards in the UK, thank god it has been repealed. Cameron had to apologise for it, by treating LGBT people as something that should be denied to kids in school. Still she was right in her actions with the Falklands I will give her that, and she stuck around for years, and I guess the first female PM we can't deny her. I don't think she was a bad person as some people try and spin it. Misguided maybe but not bad. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Section_28
Re: Margaret thatcher is dead While she did come up with Section 28 Never mock the dead, have some respect, she was still the Prime Minister, she obviously was respected by millions
Re: Margaret thatcher is dead Nobody in the UK have ever starved to death due to the the economic state. Compared to Kim Jong Un, she was a saint. Yes, she manipulated the way the system worked in order to benefit those that are better-off, but that was because she was a misguided, not because she was a bad person. No matter what, I do not believe in speaking ill of the dead, especially when they are not able to defend themselves. I agree with KittyBoy in saying that your post is highly disrespectful. Regardless of whether she deserves it or not, it's just not acceptable to assume anybody would celebrate the death of an individual.
Re: Margaret thatcher is dead While I concede that there are controversies with her term, such as the Pinochet release and house-arrest, as well as the issue of unemployement (which was an issue for only the earlier part of her time as PM, and was evidently improved by the end of her tenure), you do realise that she completely rebuilt the English economy from almost the verge of collapse?
Re: Margaret thatcher is dead 'Children who need to be taught to respect traditional moral values are being taught that they have an inalienable right to be gay.' - Thatcher [Not a bad person] And no, the economy didn't improve, unemployment hit record highs & the pound dropped to it's lowest value ever [£1 to $1.06] in 1986.
Re: Margaret thatcher is dead Compared to Brown and Blair who let the banks go insane and bankrupt themselves through dodgy dealings?
Re: Margaret thatcher is dead The economy was rebuilding in 1982 and in 1983 inflation and mortgages were down severely, both at its lowest records in over a decade. While unemployment was high in 1982-83 it was receding by 1987 when the ecomony was stabilised.
I lack the ability to give a fuck. If she were still active in politics, then I might celebrate, but as it is, she's just an old woman who'd more or less lost her mind who died of natural causes, and she isn't worth caring about. Anyway, it isn't just about what the economy did while she was prime minister, its the FUCKING TRAIN FARES. I really hope she rests in peace. Her coming back would really be tragic.
Fixed that for you, she's still the Iron Lady. Nah, in all seriousness, RIP. Not my kind of politician though (< understatement of the year)
I won’t be shedding any tears, I feel sorry for her family that they've lost a mother but she ruined the UK economy, created mass unemployment, persecuted minors and destroyed trade unions that protected workers, destroyed industry and covered up the Hillsborough disaster. She was the worst prime minister ever who ruined the lives of millions.
Ok, now I'm fucking pissed. They cancelled a TV program I was going to watch and replaced with some fucking tribute to her.
I see Martin Bashir is going to have a fun time walking a fine-line between respect and personal dislike on this one.
Section 28 was one of the nastiest pieces of legal gay bashing to pass in a western democracy in the latter part of the twentieth century and this person was the driver behind that. I certainly won't mourn her. (Although on the positive side she probably did more for the Scottish independence movement than any other politician of recent time)
