Me and my future boyfriend are having troubles figuring out what to call each other when we chat. He likes to call me "babe", but I think it's a feminine label. I call him "dear" just for fun and he doesn't like it either. I think we'd both prefer something more masculine. What are appropriate names for same sex relationships? What do you call your bf/gf?
babe has always seemed neutral to me. I know one guy who calls his BF's his women. If it doesn't feel right then just make up some nicknames.
right now, I call my boyfriend my 'imaginary friend'. I have been too busy with classwork to have a social life. I am considering stealing liz lemon's astronaught Mike Dexter for a while.
My nickname for my girlfriend is Sparkles (which explains my orientation on the left). I also call her beautiful, gorgeous, dearest, babe, etc. but Sparkles is the special one. She also calls me beautiful/gorgeous/etc but doesn't have a particular nickname for me.
Babe never sounded affectionate to me. My boyfriend and I don't use it at all. I usually call him dear, honey, or hon. I'll also be playful sometimes and call him more fun things like honey bear, honey face (from Lilo and Stitch), bug, bear, or peanut butter. Sometimes I just call him face without thinking, I don't know why. Also, since his last name has the syllable "kiss" in it, i replace it with "hug" and call him that. And he used to call me puppy when we first started going out, but he kinda stopped... That's a shame, I liked it, I should tell him to do it again... What are we talking about?
I've been wondering the same thing haha. I don't like the idea of being called "babe," "honey," or anything like that. It might sound stupid, but I've been entertaining of something like shortenting "buckaroo" into "buck" or "bucky." I'm fine with "bud" and "buddy" as well. They might sound hick to some people, but I like them.
I wouldnt mind being called babe. there are two conotations to that word, one is for a sexy female (which I aint'), and the other is for something that is young... which is always a nice compliment. but don't call me Shirley!
Babe seems neutral to me too. Personally I prefer honey. It feels simply sincere (oh snap, alliteration). Or you can just make something up like my friend with "Hey Marshmallow~"
I've usually called all my boyfriends by name and they didn't seem to have a problem with it. But on the other hand a lot of them have called me "babe" which I guess I didn't mind.
WIN. xD I've never dated anyone, but I couldn't imagine using any "pet names" or anything like "babe" or "honey." I'd probably just call him by his name.
Me and my Ex always called each other... well, a tonne of things: Babe, hun, love, dear, by name, handsome, babe. :3
I can't help call my boyfriend 'babe' ever since my friend told me she calls her boyfriend that. We also call each other our 'penguin'. Because when penguins mate, they mate for life. >.< I know, it's so cheesy/cringe worthy. But we've called each other it for so long it just sounds completely normal. I also get called Holliepop by him because I get called that a lot by other people.
