had one a while back brother said "i dont mind if you bring a girl back here but if you bring back a man i'll have to beat you both and throw you out" clearly not understanding the concept of being bi. the very worst thing was what was not said by any of my family the tacit conspiracy to completely ignore it and rapidly change the subject if it strays anywhere near "gay Shit". Sunday dinners, mother would ask everyone of my siblings how there other halves were when it got to me it was "would you like more peas?" no i would not
Fabulous response! May I make one tentative suggestion? Next time (if there's any chance of a next time), just answer the question she didn't ask: "Would you like more peas?" "Oh, he's great. He just a new job at another paper...10% increase over his old salary. Oh, and I'll pass on the peas, thanks."
Long rants about how Cruz "will be this sodomite country's savior" and how HB2 should be nationwide, throw in a bunch of verses I don't care to quote, etc. And that's the "open minded" side of my family, by the way. You should see the other. :eusa_doh:
The one that takes the cake is that time my dad said that trans people are evil, selfish, and incapable of love.
"Gay people are an abomination." "Gay relationships are a perversion." "Gay people can't go to Heaven." "Gay men are f----ts." "Gay women are d--es." "God didn't create Gays." "Homosexuality is a ploy to feminize black men." (In referral to a particular person) "He got some sugar in his tank." The truly sad part is all of this was said throughout different time periods, some even several years ago, and I can still recall the exact people that said them and how they made me feel.
My daughter was born on May 1st. My parents did not come to the hospital to see her when they lived less than an hour away. The 12th of May was Mothers day and I invited my mother over to see our new baby. She said she was going to spend the day with her mother instead. When I said why don't you spend it with me I'm a new mother. She said I was not the mother Ruth was.
"No matter what you do to your body, it will never work and you will always actually be female." "So you'd be the 'man' and he would be the 'woman' in this scenario?" About me considering the possibility of dating a trans-woman. "Trans-people are freaks/disgusting/mentally ill." People calling a trans-person a "he-she" or "she-male" or "it" makes me want to vomit. *sigh*
My parents have never said anything very offensive but the do tend to say stereotypical things a lot.. They once said that being a grandparent is all about having grandkids and if they didn't have any, they would be sad and bored
Well I've never heard anything over the top but I do have a few trump supporters in the family so we'll see.
I can accept you being gay or bi but I can not accept you liking that freaky tr***y shit. I literally could not hold in my tears on drill field. Out of all of the breakdowns I had in that era, that one got me the worst.
When our daughter was a newborn, we kept her in our bedroom for the first couple months because she woke up so often at night...when my mother heard about it, she said it was a disgrace because of all the perverted things that the poor infant would be exposed to.
"Why are there so many gay people on TV these days?" "Why are there so many camp gay men on TV? And why are they all presenters? That guy is camper than a row of tents. Look at him, all "mincing" around like that." (After seeing two girls kiss) Mum: eww. "So she's a lesbian? That's cool I guess, but I wish she would just "tone it down" a little. She's way too butch, I don't like her." "Ew, it that guy wearing nail polish? I can't stand men who do that. Real men don't wear nail polish, it's weird when a guy does it" * (Watching "The Voice" and a contestant comes on. The contestant is a trans woman). "Why are they calling "him" a "she"? What way is "it" trying to go? Oh so "It" is trying to be a woman? Well they're doing a damn well terrible job at it then, they look like a woman "trying" to be a man. In fact, "he" looks like "he" is trying to be like Prince (this was before Prince died). Oh so who won?" "She did" "Who? The actual woman next to "him", or the "bloke in the dress" who's in denial about his biology?" :eusa_doh:
I guess that would mostly be from my grandfather. He keeps going on about how it's "not natural". >__> My grandmother on my mother's side also said she just couldn't understand how (for example) two girls could ever be together...
I wouldn't really say this was offensive at all, more of just a funny/awkward situation. My mum's divorced and she's had this on/off relationship with this guy she's know for about over a year. She was talking about him in the car and she said "It'd just be easier if I was gay!" as a joke. Awkward, because I'm gay and not out to her, but it was just gold the way she said it.
It's funny. My family isn't overtly anti lgbt. I know that in general they won't approve of me, but my parents and brother don't use the word gay anymore as a pejorative. They are dismissive of lgbt people in general but not outright offensive. But I guess that's offensive in its own right.
Well I have a few. ''If you're trying to look like a man, why won't you cut your hair?'' (Thanks for implying that I'm not real, btw) ''No, I mean, if you were a REAL man'' (Thanks again for making me feel like shit) ''No, it's not normal to be gay!'' (In reference to a friend) ''You can't call girls boys when they still have a uterus'' ''We're only doing you a favor by calling you by your preferred name while it's not even legal yet'' ''Bisexuals sleep with everyone'' ''You need to tell your lesbian friend that you don't want to date her'' (Sorry, but I don't believe she's attracted to every girl, especially not me since I'm not a girl) ''Asexuals don't exist'' ''A relationship without sex is called a friiiiiieeeeennnddship'' (In reference to asexuality) *misgenders every single trans person in existence except me* Well, 90% of those were said by my mom's boyfriend. I do find him really annoying, but that's to be expected of a near 70 year old guy. He just didn't grow up in an accepting time.
My family is pro LGBT, but one of my brothers can be a homophobic piece of shit sometimes. So I was calling a friend: Brother: Who are you talking to? Me: (friends name). Brother: (friends name)? thanks a gay name. Me: Hmm. Well he is day so.. Brother: WHAT?! you hang out with GAY people? you shouldnt do that! He'll turn you gay and people will start to hate you bcause everyone hates homo's! nobody likes them and thats why people punch them and kill them. theyre filthy pigs and they should just hang themselves. I swear Ive never had such a big urge to punch him in the face. He's so little minded and obviously not intelligent. Not only this he's just a complete asshole and everybody in the family doesnt like him because his personality and reasoning is just awful. He complains about the samllest things while doing worse things himself. He thinks that everything he assumes is true. And you cant change his opinion. But he's working for "a homo" now so its a nice thought of him listening to "a gay". luckily the rest of the family is super nice. I was watching Rupauls Dragrace with my other KIND brother the other night.
