To the surprise of nobody: Robertson goes on to note that homosexuality is the sin that begat all others as America lost its way from its foundation as a Christian nation: “Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men.” He also says that mass murder is a direct result of ignoring the teachings of Jesus, citing Nazis, “Shintos,” Communists, and “Islamists.” Full story here, Via Salon
Shocking...who'd have thought a guy from a show about stereotype swamp dwellers might be homophobic...
Why am I not surprised. Ugh, m grandpa adores this show. It's the only TV he watches other than Fox News. I can't sit with him while he's watching TV for fear that a segment about homosexuality will come on and he'll go on a rant about how gay people are horrible sinners and shouldn't be allowed to marry, and that this country's going down the drain. I wish he could be just a little more open minded. Enough so I wouldn't be terrified to tell him and my mother.
Why did I first think he was a hockey player based off the OP? lol Duck Dynasty sounded like a hockey team to me, guess I'm thinking of that movie Mighty Ducks or something...
He also said that growing up in 1950's rural Louisiana he never saw any mistreatment of African-Americans. I kind of expected someone from Hicktown, USA to be homophobic and a race baiter.
He didn't "see" any mistreatment of African-Americans growing up because as a white, heterosexual male he didn't have to deal with having a minority status. Pretty easy to ignore the stuff you don't have to deal with.
Pretty sure America was never a "Christian Nation." One of the reasons it was founded was for freedom of religion. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if he's forced off the show, or the show is cancelled. TV Companies have learned that letting a show's star offend a group of people isn't good for ratings.
Well, it's no secret things are in fact going downhill. I don't agree with all his views, but he does get some things right.
Not truly surprised. Love his logic, very scholarly . I only respect the fact that he was honest of his feelings. I actually prefer going to Target and not Walmart just so I don't have to look at Duck Dynasty paraphernalia. No, I don't want a Duck Dynasty floor mat, blanket, pillow, bed sheets, coffee mug, pencil, poster, keychain, book, et al. I like hunting shows, which this is not; I kinda would rather watch Here Comes Honey Boo Boo (at least she's got a gay uncle) even though I feel I'd lose half my brain cells in the process.
I heard about this from my dad. He said he's happy that the guy from Duck Dynasty, "put the homosexuals in their place."
I'm surprised he had even heard of Shintoism. Also anybody claiming America is a Christian is unaware of the traditional Ramadan feast Thomas Jefferson held in the white house. It turns out the Ottoman Empire ( an "Islamist" country) was the first to formally recognize the United States' independence.
I made it almost half way through one episode of this show before I had to change the channel. I really don't understand why it's so popular. Maybe it's just me but I don't care about his opinion
'Duck Dynasty' star Phil Robertson suspended over anti-gay comments - MSN TV News Well, that escalated quickly.
Wow, that was fast. I imagine the advertisers/sponsors faced a good deal of pressure. OT: I just looked at A&E's list of shows...yikes! Everyone has these ZZ Top beards, except the rodeo ladies.
As offended as I am by his opinion, it wasn't given with ill-will, and he should be allowed to have it. Not to mention there is no other way that could have gone. I may be stereotyping hillbillies, but have you met many that don't thump the Bible when condemning homosexuality?
