What I mean is if a parent of a child with a serious life threatening condition treats it with prayer, new age/alternative medicine, etc. If the case if that as a result of these "non traditional treatments" the child (under 18) dies then I think the parents should be tried for 2nd degree murder or at the very least neglect. I'm going to be honest, I don't care if this goes against a person's culture or religion...the child should come first. Now I know this is a controversial topic, but let's keep things civil. Thanks
Yeah. A child is not the property of their parents. They are human beings with the right to a life and a future.
Yes, the child should be taken away from them. I'm sick of all the "parental rights" bullshit. Children are not the property of their parents, they're human beings entitled to equal protection under the law, and that includes protection from harm done to them with parental consent. So parents should not be allowed to deny children vital medical care. (For the same reason it should be illegal to perform a circumcision on a child, but that's another problem caused by this "parental rights" bullshit)
If the child is in need of medical care/medicine and the parent knows this, then yes, it should be considered child endangerment if the parent refuses to care for their child and instead use "prayer". If the parent is incapable of caring for the child then they should be taken away because they're obviously unfit to be parents and look after the childs health.
A parent is a temporary guardian of a child. The point being that they cannot permanently deprive a child of life, no matter what their beliefs are. When you can prevent innocent death, it is tantamount to murder to let them die.
Yes, it should absolutely be a crime. In fact, people like that should not be allowed to reproduce in the first place.
Enough said. It's sad how we (the US) tend to ignore one of the documents that our nation was founded upon.
I do think kids should be given medical care, regardless of whether or not the parents think it's right. I understand the right to freedom of religion in the US and the freedom to practice their religion, but prayer is not medicine. As far as New Age or holistic medicine, that can also be practiced along side whatever treatment the child needs. Spells, prayer, and nutritional or chelation therapy are all fine, but they should not be used alone. If the parents don't allow their child(ren) treatment, they should have their child taken away.
Yeah. Parents don't always (or even usually) know best. Personally, I don't think my parents should have had ANY rights.
I sometimes wonder if there should be less focus in general on the biological parents. Let the kids be raised as part of a community or whatever. Because when there are just one or two people raising the kids, the pass on all of their prejudice and insecurities to their kids, and they're a very limited role model. What ever the parents are becomes the norm, and anything else is weird/different/wrong.
